      .....
I agree, it's really sad to think of her gone. No ship was like her, and no ships like her will ever be built again.

But that being said, I don't think it would matter at all if Star hadn't bought NCL. She might have ended har career even sooner if Star didn't step in. I tend to think that Star extended her life, ever so little.

Sadly, her end was a tragic one.

Thinking about that she could be saved ( Amsterdam was interested in her, but to expensive ) she was an icon of her time like the QE2 .
But business people have nothing with history
But remeber the debacle with the ss Rotterdam about the costs. Thiugh it seems to bee in calmer water now. Don't hear much about it anymore.

Found this old NRK program from the Norwegian cruise ship adventure in the Caribbean.(Not sure if it has been posted here before)
A lot of it is abt. SS Norway and some may see familiar faces here: https://tv.nrk.no/program/FREP430034...p-i-luksusfart

That is a nice picture! Thank you for sharing.

OOOOOHHHH.... how lovely on so many levels. This must have been taken during her visit to Geiranger back in summer of 1984.

          What an amazing ship!

What a beautiful ship! More so before they added the extra deck on top.

Was she originally built with bow thrusters? If not when were they added? Looking at the bushy hair and side burns of the people I though the photo was from the 60's but I didn't think bow thrusters would have been installed that long ago.

This image was taken during her 1984 North Cape Cruise - I don't have the exact dates, but I would guess some day in the end of July and beginning of August 1984.

              http://www.captainsvoyage.com/norweg.../timeline.html

The bow thrusters (3 forward and 2 stern thrusters) were added in the conversion from France to Norway in 1979 to 1980.

I am very glad that I took two cruises on her. Even back then when I was more concerned about the drink prices I still really appreciated the ship and her history. I really do need to dig out all my old photographs and see if any catch who's driving the tender or greeting us on a formal night.

Yes, please do so. That would be interesting to see.

I do also have a lot of "unpublished" photos from the ship that I have been planning on sharing for a long time, but never gotten around to both digitalise and share.

Imagine if we had the high quality digital cameras we have today, back then!?

I took thousands of photos on and of the ship during my years serving on her, all in increments of 24 or 36 shots.... about 2-6 rolls of film EACH week. My camera was permanently in a locker on the bridge.
