Nice meeting with MS Ocean Majesty. Yes two classic ships, but since the conversion MS Ocean Majesty los a lot of their elegant lines and looks not very harmonic. See her in her first life as MS Juan March:

M/S Juan was built along the lines of the old Southern Cross (SS) -maybe in a similar era when 2 funnels were the thing. I recall going aboard the Southern Cross in Tahiti about early 1955 and being young/er I thought the air conditioning was dreadful. Could not wait to return to the Waikawa (Union SS) and its noisy winches, smoke and rust here and there.

Ombugge, did you come across the Union SS Co ships in your Pacific travels?

In Australia yes, but I cannot recall if we ever met them in PNG or Solomon ports. Probably.

Thanks. At its peak Union SS Co of NZ had over twenty freighters and were responsible for carrying food supplies to many ports - especially very remote ones like our island. Not one of them was lost in the Line Islands, but 2 Bank Line vessels were a total loss with one death a few years apart on Fanning and Washington Islands. Skippers tended to forget I think about the variability and dangers from the powerful Humbolt.

Thanks for sharing A LOT of great, new images of the old lady.

To be honest, I have lost my passion for Hurtigruten some time the past half decade.... but it is still wonderful to look at images of the ships, their passengers and crew... and the life around hurtigruten. Keep sharing those wonderful images!

"Lofoten" in Svolvær along with "Spitsbergen". "Lofoten" departed alone due to the christening of "Spitsbergen".

                        Hei Mr "Sea Otter" ,
Are you Mr Horsevik ? Greetings !
Just saw your photos of the 2 Hurtigrutes in Trollfjord at the same time ! Looks like the pictures were taken on a private boat within the fjord itself.
Lofoten always followed Spitsbergen in June-July 2016 with Spitsbergen going into Trollfjord first followed by Lofoten ( hope I'm right )
Pictures showed Lofoten turning round with Spitsbergen in front, just exit-ing the fjord.
Was this on or before Jul 10 2016 ? I have uploaded a picture on Photobucket , of the 2 Hurtigrutes in Trollfjord on 10 Jul 2016. This was
a series of shots using the webcamera on-board Lofoten, tracking Spitsbergen during Spitsbergen maiden-sailing on the BGO-KKN-BGO route.
I think that it is rare to observe two boats from Hurtigruten simultaneosly withi Trollfjord.

This shot was taken on 10Jul2016 at 17:15 from Lofoten's webcamera, (captured from the net.)

Great pictures and a very interesting size comparison. I was not aware that Spitsbergen is such small. Veery sympatic. Could be interesting to have a trip on her before she is changing in the explorer business with very expensive cruises.

It's quite amazing to think about Lofoten now being the last surviving "old" generation ship in service, though I fear for her future when new ships are on order. I haven't paid much attention to Hurtirguten lately, so I'm not sure if one of the 4 newbuildings are thought to replace her.

She has been a strong ship and she has quite a following I know... in the summer months, she is rumored to be fully booked for the most part.
