    Two possible reasons:
As a classic ship with a single screw at her stern her rudder is streamed in a different way on backbord or starboard turns. This is because of the direction the screw turns. Therefore the turning circle could be much different or wider in backboard direction, so it is easier to turn the (apparently longer) way in starboard direction. We forget about this effect while using all this new bowthruster stuff...

    Second reason:
Much nicer panorama view while turning the wider angle. The old lady did a pole-dance for farewell!

Anyway - thank you so much for this wonderful report. It is amazing and almost unbelievable that you alone made all these pictures from your different spotter places. That means a perfect time management and the knowledge, that the Police will stay at other places, while you are quickly changing from place to place...

    And what a great result!

I am now located at a favourite spotterplace of mine at Cafe Kippers in Bergen! From Marine Traffic I see that Nordstjernen is coming in via the Nordhordlandsbrua route...

That's it. What will come now? Will she return again, because a newer ship gets problems? Will she become a training vessel? Will she become a historic vessel? Hopefully not a floating hotel or restaurant.

I wish you all the best and first of al a successful summer up in the North! Cecilia will take care of you and will report about your second farewell...? We will see!

Thank you for following the arrival on the webcam Ralf and Carina.

I took some photos from Cafe Kippers until something like the 15:12 webcam photo of Ralf's. Then I headed off to the Hurtigrute terminal, pausing on route for yet another viewpoint!....well, it's not QUITE "doing a Sterkoder" as I was on foot! But the band hadn't quite finished playing when I got there, and after a few photos from the quay where quite a few spectators had gathered I went inside the terminal building and onto the balcony from where I took my final photos of the ship, the remaining passengers and band performers dispersing, and the Captain and various crew being interviewed by press and TV.

Then a few words with some of my fellow passengers - no doubt amazed at me once again popping up in advance of the ship!...Well my crazy plan worked out perfectly, and I am so VERY VERY glad I made this trip.

Strange emotions indeed, and yes I will see what the end of August brings by way of further adventures. Meanwhile hugs and thanks to all of you who followed me and NX both actually and virtually, and for all the emotions we have shared.

              ...I don't leave Bergen until tomorrow...then photos....

A great ending for the old lady. Just looked through all the pictures of "Kong Olav" on eastern shores... Seems like Nordstjernen gets to stay in Norway. Thats good.

You've got definitely some wow's in your photostream! Thx!

Wonder if there's a farewell party for the crew on board tonight?

There's a big party inside that boat right now!! It so boring to sit here, knowing what I'm missing

There you are Carina...I was sure Tom must be around somewhere and would have photos posted long before me!

Tom...they are marvellous, as expected from you. I missed her relocating round to Vågen...just glimpsed her coming to a halt as I was wandering along Bryggen towards Stratsraad Lehmkuhl...now if I had been round the other side we could have had exclusive party for two . But great that we got different photo opportunities actually ...and I've just been taking NX with Beffen photos!

Talked to a guy I know at the DNV about it today, and he mostly confirm what Ralf say:
When moving stern first out from the mooringplace, the not-moveable propeller wings "grab on to sea" when it rotates so much so that a starboard rudder to turn the stern the other way would not help.
No matter what the intentions of the navigator was, she simply had to perform that turn, wether they wanted it or not.
                              Well, that solved...
