She is sailing again. And will sail from Harstad at 7 PM. Du to the tecnichal problem mentioned by acticGareway, she had to cancell Sortland and Risøyhamn. She will also cancell Finnsnes, Skjervøy, Øksfjord, Hammerfest and Havøysund. And she will pick up her normal schedule in Honningsvåg.

Hopefully she will do her very best the rest of her last roundtrip to be in right time to pick up our carinahansen and Seagull in Harstad on her southbound route.

Thanks Martin, yes I always keep an eye on that Norwegian web page for route changes, and I looked at Marine Traffic when i got in this afternoon and saw she'd just left Harstad.

I should be able to reactivate my Norwegian sim card for my iPad when I get to Norway so I will be in touch with everything.

        Interesting modified time-table.
What on earth are they going to do in Tromsø during 3 hours in the middle of the night? Unload goods?

Have you also thought about that Nordstjernen is having quite much problems with the auxialiry machines? They shouldn't be that old?

I hope she will continue her route safely now...

Here she was, on March 14th, between Nesna and Ørnes. I was on board the southbound MS Vesteraalen, it was both a joyful and sad moment.

Great images Sarnia, nice seeing her in action.
There seems to a lot of cheerful people on onboard!

              • Would the captain delegate bow position to an anchor-man and concentrate on bringing the stern in; or would the captain actively involve himself in both stern and bow?
              • What's keeping the bow line tight as we see in Carina's photo?

I would love to see a Gulf of Mexico boat doing that walking manoeuvre.
The Captain (Or Ch. Mate) will give the orders, someone else will operate the break and ease out on the chain.
The fact that the engine is going Dead Slow Ahead will keep the spring line in tension and the ship turning sideways. (That is the whole point)

Just saw the AIS track for Nordstjernen, and there was some very strange manoeuvers right before Tromsø (dunno) More technical issues?

Thank you for your patience Ombugge. I understand how this works to bring a ship in (typically against an offshore wind) with bow line, momentum and forward power but I'm struggling to understand the forces involved when the anchor is also used. I can't find an illustrated example of exactly this configuration on the web.

(Maybe we should take this to a more appropriate CV forum).

ArticGateway, as you probably know, "Nordstjernen" was late, and there wasn't much time for the port guests, so we didn't get to meet this time, though I think I saw you by the gangway.
Anyway, "Nordstjernen" i Harstad for the last time as a Hurtigrute. I am dissapointed that they didn't have any flags or anything to show that it is her last trip.

I actually missed Nordstjernen in Stokmarknes

I was hoping that I would get to meet some of you guys today, but time didn't allow me. So the only thing I got to see today was Nordstjernen leaving Stokmarknes for the last time...But, it is better than nothing i guess.

I really hope that all of you are having a good time on Nordstjernen's last trip as a Hurtigrute, and that we will get a new chance to meet sometime in the future.
