I made it, and Lady C has positively stalked me! I'm the one in the red circle!

With more than 400 images taken, I have recorded the entire ship - almost. Images coming soon naturally!

So very thrilled about the successful stalk, and delightedly looking forward to those photos of yours.
Finnmarked pulled away from the quay exactly on time I note!

. . . and say goodbye as she passes Munkholmen!

                That is simply stunning.
And so special that this first photo is the “reverse view” of that successful-stalk webcamera image!

                      Gorgon Project

Here is some info for those who would like to know what Finnmarken will get involved in:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=151bPmYGGzg

The Charterer is Boskalis Australia, a subsidiary of Royal Boskalis Westminster in Holland, who will be constructing the LNG export wharf and RoRo facility for the Gorgon LNG Plant at Barrow Island. This includes substantial dredging work.
Here is a link to their website: http://www.boskalis.com/nieuws.php?p...62&itemID=3010

From what I can gather, the shortest way for the ship on her journey to Australia will be through the Suez Canal. I think this will be the very first time a Hurtigruten ship transfers through Suez, after Kong Olav.

The black ship side might be a problem in those extremely warm areas, so I would not be surprised at all if we see the ship leaving the ship yard with an all white hull.

Additionally, the cargo area on Finnmarken is not isolated (I would guess) and will be a sauna unless they decide to isolate it from the heat. I would also not be surprised if this area was not converted into cabin sections to increase her berth capacity.

Yes, the Suez Canal and around the Horn of Africa and from there the great circle to Dampier, WA is the shortest route. Quite a voyage.

                          Bergen - Dampier, via Suez: 9,828 n.miles / 27 days @ 15 kts. + 1 day Suez + Bunkering stop(s)

The alternative is via Cape of Good Hope to avoid hefty Suez Canal fee and piracy prone Gulf of Aden: 11,799 n.miles / 33 day + Bunkering stop(s)

                            A long journey indeed.

Where was the conversion taking place again?

Some more images from yesterday, before we go on board.
