Finnmarken earlier on... I have a feeling that this is one of the most popular ships:

Stay cool and go into the Finnmarken deck plan. Once aboard i am sure they will offer you a suitable cabin. I can't imagine, that she will be fully booked in this kind of season. The staff aboard the ships is much more friendly and helpful than the guys and girls in the foreign, landbased booking office. Yes, she is big, but she has a lot more charactere than Trollfjord or Midnatsol. You will like her, as i do. Definitly a good choice!

Thank you Mark, food for thought. I think I will take my chances. The difference in price can offer us at least one extra night in the Lofoten Islands so it's worth it, and that'll be a new experience!

Yves, I'm afraid this is valid only for UK customers (a shameful privilege if you ask me ).

I guess that we're talking about the same cabins as we had in 2004!! Doubt that the view has deteriorated since then. We were right towards the front on the same level as reception - could hear the water on the bow which made staying awake a bit of a challenge. Didn't like the cabin when we walked into it (travelling port to port, so we didn't have a choice), but didn't want to leave it after four days on FM. What a wonderful trip that was - HVG to Molde after a trip to see the family.

Firstly what it looked like from the inside, then secondly passing shipping(!). Old logos on the funnel.

Thank you both for your answers. Yes, I can see the "tube" portholes cabins on Deck 2 and 3 and they seem to qualify as "restricted view" indeed (it says so in the description), thank you for pointing them out.
I would like a cabin with quick outside access so Decks 5 or 6 would be fine, but these L cabins are not ideally located. Hmm, what to do, what to do!

Is the "Northern Lights Promise" the deal with which you can have another travel for free if you don't see the Northern Lights?

Hi, Looks to me like there are "Restricted View" cabins (which I believe cover some of L and all of J classes) on both Deck 2(12-27) & 3(12) which are the ones in the bow with "tunnel" or "torpedo tube" portholes as well as port side on Decks 5(4) & 6(7). This is from deck plan I have saved which looks the same as those on websites (inc French one :-). Not sure if all of Deck 2 cabins or only front 12 are classified as "Restricted View".
Our tastes are coinciding - Finnmarken is also on my "other than Lofoten" wishlist - I've just booked on Lofoten roundtrip on 31/10 and was also looking at Finnmarken earlier that month. Both these are UK Office deals with flights, first time I won't be travelling independently. Got a Northern Lights Promise too! :-)

Hello! I think the "obstructed view" mostly applies to deck 6, but if I remember right, you can see both the color of the sea and the sky when you wake up. And I can recommend Finnmarken as a splendid ship with great atmosphere!

Hello all. I am in the planning of my next trip with Hurtigruten, which will be Tromso to Svolvaer via Kirkenes in March 2016 (and then a few days in Svolvaer), hunting for winter lights (during the day and at night). I am seriously considering doing this trip with MS Finnmarken. I'm worried that she's a bit big for me (and my travel companion, we love MS Lofoten so hugely different) but MS Finnmarken's ambiance appeals to me and I really want to try out the front bridge space. I figure that four nights is an OK time if we end up not liking it (although I'm not overly worried ).
Because of budget constraints we are considering an outside cabin with obstructed view (we still want to be able to have a glimpse of the color of the sky when we wake up...) but for such a short trip we cannot choose our cabin, it will be attributed when boarding. So I have a question : on which decks are the cabins with obstructed views on MS Finnmarken? From the deck plans there are some on deck 5 and 6, but are there others on the lower decks?

Here are some pictures of MS Finnmarken I took from MS Nordlys last February (juste after Kjøllefjord).

Interesting new angles in this collection of new images, Sterkoder. I think they are also nice because we can clearly see that the ship is making headway. Well done!
