    Re: ::: Finnmarken :::

I'm more sad than happy about this. I love Nordstjernen so much and have spent over a year onboard as a trainee on deck. But it is due, of course, she's getting old One thing's for sure, I will be onboard during her last trip.

She didn't look to good with all that rust pouring down her side. Looking forward to getting her home
I like "Nordstjernen" very much to, but as long as she don't end up as the old "Finnmarken" on Stokmarknes, or like "Kong Olav" down in Burma, I think she'll be fine

Not sure if these pictures have been shown before (from Norwegian NRK). Shows among other things the hole from the barge that hit the ship during some bad weather: http://www.nrk.no/nyheter/distrikt/nordland/1.7817351

She sure looks rusty... But she'll be a shiny ship when she returns!

Wouldn't anyone else love to see her sporting white hull back in Hurtigruten again...? Even just for a single season!

              Dear all readers,

So, the talk around town is now that she'll be back in Norway again some time in the spring of 2012.

This is apparently a recent image of her, linked directly from where the image resides on blogspot:

I know she will go through a total brush-up, but that is a sad sight right there! Looks like some nightmare from a certain beach in Asia.....

I had the same thought, but it's all superficial I would think. Nothing that a little black paint cant fix.

I like Jan-Olav's idea about keeping her White for a season, but the funnel need to be painted black again
Her Contract in Australia is over within the next month I've heard...does anyone know more ?

Looks like the fabric covering the swimming pool is gone?
Regarding the rust on the hull: it's just some rust on the hull, nothing to be worried about.

As Tommi said, the rust is nothig to worry about, there are Hurtigrute ships today that are much worse! Just imagine if Nordstjernen was white

Se is riding at anchor and not moored to the pre-set mooring seen earlier. The barge that has been moored alongside as a "landing platform" for crew boats and supply vessels has gone from Stbd. side.

Any indication if she is still off Barrow Island, or been moved somewhere in preparation to leave???

I'll try to find out which yard she will be at for the reinstatement in Hurtigruten standard and colours. (incl. removal of MUA stickers)
That will probably take some time after 18 months inactive.

Do we know who will bring her up here to Singapore, the present Australian crew, or will a Norwegian crew take over somewhere along the route?
(Sometimes change of crew take place off Bali)

Imagine that. About Norstjernen, there's a well known joke that they are not aloud to use rust-wash onboard cause she will dissapear..

Looking forward to seeing Finnmarken with her original colors again. I'm not a big fan of the white White looked great on the very old ships though.

Just heard that FM is sailing to Singapore for repaint and upgrade to hurtigrute standard again, and also classing..., so we might see some images along the way from our photographer in Singapore, 'ombugge'...?

Glad to hear she is coming home... I fondly remember my trip on her from Tromsø, to Kirkenes and back again in 2006. I just came across a couple of pictures from that trip, I will have to excuse the bad quality shots, was taken with a camera phone... Strangely I took precious few shots of the ship itself...

Shot of the bridge superstructure, kind of a predecessor to my similar shots from the Voyager of the Seas last year

Put on a sepia effect here... Not the most tasteful, but showing an old abandoned fishing village

                                The russian border, in B&W

                                Arriving in Berlevåg, also sepia

                                Vardøhus fortress

I love that the remaining fog created a kind of "sunshade" around the mountains

On the other hand, this means I have to get myself together and get on a trip with Nordstjernen before she will be out of service...
