    News about Havila Kystruten

Since Hurtigruten will not be alone in the future it is time to start a thread for Havila Kystruten who will join them on the service.
First is the report that none of the 4 ships to be operated by Havila Kystruten will be built in Norway:

Looks like Havila won't build any of their 4 new ships in Norway due to "lack of interest from Norwegian ship-yards".

Two will be built in a Spanish yard, the two others have not been announced yet.

Spanish shipyard cancels newbuild orders for Havila Kystruten

Havila Kystruten, the future co-operator of Norwegian coastal passenger ships on the traditional Hurtigruten line, faces a problem: Hijos de J. Barreras, based in Vigo, Spain, is reported to have canceled Havila’s contract to build two passenger ships. Barreras is financially stricken and had suspended the construction of the ships since August this year.

Havila needs four ships for the Norwegian Coast Service, two of which are under construction at Tersan, Turkey, the HAVILA CAPELLA and HAVILA CASTOR, and two, the HAVILA POLARIS and HAVILA POLLUX, were ordered from Barreras. Havila faces a real problem with the order cancellation on the part of Barreras, since the service should already be started in 2021. It would be a challenge to find two suitable ships by then, because, firstly, the ships have to meet high environmental requirements, and, secondly, virtually no smaller but newer passenger ships are available for chartering or for purchase.
