Of course we made also a visit beside SS Rotterdam.

Thijs entered the copilot seat to get his long wished frogeye-perspective pictures of the vessel. Because of his perfect time management we were the first passengers on the bus and had the VIP seats in the front of the bus.

Then we returned again to the Euromast.

Brochure picture to show you the "splash-moment".

Yes, that was big fun!!! I can absolutely recommend this experience. Great!

I'll add a few of my own scenes from this really splendid trip. As Ralf said, Thijs had pointed out this strange Splashbus when we were together in 2011 and now we were to experience it for ourselves.
Yes, everyone voted for the big splash and my underlining holds true. Wow!
My first picture is not that splash - we were all too busy holding our breath, but this is how it was as we moved out into what seemed a vast ocean, so close were we to the water surface.

A calmer scene - the lovely Erasmus bridge in the background, known by locals as De Zwaan (the Swan), also the Harp, and I think that is the old De Hef railway bridge in the far distance. Am I right, Thijs?

Then two Tall Ships. First one was the Eendracht - I was so delighted to see her for real as Thijs posted a photo of her a couple of years ago.

And then immediately after there was the Oosterschelde, and then I was really excited because I have been on board her when she was berthed at the South Quay as part of the Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival, 2011.

At last this trip-with-a-difference was coming to an end. We were approaching the slipway and, having got used to being in a "boat" it was almost alarming to watch the determined approach to hard ground!:

There was a grinding noise as something below decks was adjusting - getting the wheels down as per aircraft - a slight jolt, and we were on land again:

              Splashbus - farewell, and thanks.

And many thanks, also, to Thijs for fitting this most unusual journey into our time together.

I cannot see any Plimsol Mark on the Splash Bus, but from other pictures of it in the water it appears that the waterline is about at that black line along the sides.

The "Ducks" in Singapore has load line mark and draft marks:

It seems to be the same for the Rotterdam Splashbus.

If I have done this correctly - here's the video.

I shall leave this thread for completion by Ralf and Thijs now. Their next mission was to ascend to the top of the Euromast with Regina, but claustrophobia again got the better of me and I remained below in the deserted cafe. After their visit we had a little difficulty in finding somewhere good to eat, but Thijs, as ever, rose to the occasion and we ended up at a delightful and extremely busy restaurant.
The following morning was our last as a foursome, but I will now transfer to a different thread where I can describe the second part of my great holiday of 2014. Actually Ralf in his enthusiasm opened one up for me some time ago, but I have a mind to ask Mark if he could work his magic and transfer the start of that to my Wanderings thread. I have to make up my mind.
Meanwhile, all yours on this thread, you two!

Been thinking.... a painful process! However, I think I will let it remain on the thread Ralf started elsewhere in this section, as for me it was certainly all part of our meeting up. But many thanks, Mark. What was it you said very recently about being useful? Yes, I have to agree, I'm afraid.

So I don't need to do anything? That's good. I shall do that immediately and to the best of my (limited) ability.
