    Speedbird`s bits & pieces

I thought i`d make my own thread for pictures and stuff that don`t really fit into the other threads.

    First batch:

The coast used to be littered with these before. Specially made for the ship`s spring lines. The hook is attached to a long and heavy chain that acts like a brake to stop the docking ships. Very simple and efficient technology but sadly made obsolete by thrusters and more advanced mooring winches.

I was fascinated by the sharp angles and lines in this mast top that were so elegantly destroyed by the battered TV-antenna.

The radar, easily forgotten but is the most important navigational innovation since the ***tant! This old Furuno have swiveled many a thousand times!

Great thread idea Speedbird, and photos that are as beautiful to look at as they are interesting and informative. I love the 4th picture with the out of focus spire balancing the sharply focussed ship detail, and the quality of the light at this time of year conveyed in all the images.
Thanks for explaining about the hook in detail.

Great thread... I know you and trust you will be able to build this thread with some amazing images as time ticks by!

Love those that you have already shared: you have clearly shown that you don't need to include everything in a shot, small details are interesting enough!

DANG! Those are superb! Is that an otter?

That image really goes to show that you should ALWAYS have your camera ready! Great capture! Love the sharpness and the "wet-look" of it as he/she runs.

The seagull one is also ... quite brilliant, love the composition and the blue background adds so much to the whole! Fantastic. Is the background the sea?

Thank you! Yeah it`s an otter, i just caught a glimpse of it in the corner of my eye while i was having a cup of coffee in my car.

The second pic is a sandpiper taking off. Apart from rotation the image is completely un-edited, the 70-300 did the rest!

You are really starting to make me jealous of that 70-300...

But right now, since I got the extender, I should not even start thinking about purchasing another lens.

I'm in thee market for a good HD video camera right now..... but that is another story.

Did i mention i like photographing Tits as well? Particularly Great Tits!

Why? Because they are so tame you can almost touch them! It makes them perfect photo subjects.

Bravo... I actually had to stop and look twice at this one, as at first, I didn't quite understand what I was seeing. Now, that makes it a master piece.
