Sorry only Norwegian comments. (actually in Tronder dialect, which can be hard to understand, even for other Norwegians.
The calf has been named Little Erna in "honour" of the Prime Minister of Norway.

I can't answer that, but those with more knowledge of the fauna and flora of the deep forests and high plateaus in Norway will probably be able to tell you.
Last year a lone young wolf got across the mountains and eventually got shot, after having killed a lot of sheep.

What was the reason for the reintroduction?
Beavers were reintroduced to this country a few years ago and, while it is good in a general sense to see the return of animals which had become extinct in an area, I wonder about the damage to trees and that caused by blocked up waterways when they are building their dams. It is difficult to weigh the pros and cons.

Reintroduction of wolf in Eastern and Northern Norway may have been more successful than the locals appreciates: http://www.vg.no/nyheter/innenriks/u...ay/a/23419550/

With ref. to Post #591, and the comments that followed, here is another about a "whale" that get entangle in a fishing net: http://www.smp.no/nyheter/article10748366.ece
This time with less happy ending.

What to do about it?? That is a hard question to answer, since it does not have an easy solution. You cannot ban fishing and you cannot stop whales, dolphins or seal etc. from going after food in the same areas as the fishermen ply their trade.

Well it is now official, the Finn Whale did not survive. The carcase drivted back to the same place it was rescued from: http://www.nrk.no/ostfold/_-hvalen-er-dod-1.12257806
Now is the question, what to do with it???

More whale stories. (In Norwegian only): http://www.vgtv.no/#!/video/109395/h...edningsskoeyta
(The comment by the children interviewed here is hilarious)

A large Finn Whale got stranded in Hvalsundet (Whale Sound) on Hvaler (Whales?), a group of islands in the outer Oslo Fjord. It was bleeding from damages it had sustained somehow.

The RSS Horn Flyer eventually managed to pull it out to deep water, but not without a struggle. For a while the whale pulled the Horn Flyer backwards.

After it got exhausted they managed to release it, but it took a while before it swan away and disappeared. Nobody know if it survived the ordeal, and the damages.

Here is a a report and video from the local TV station: http://www.vgtv.no/#!/video/109395/h...edningsskoeyta
