China is putting an ever-increasing pressure on Hong Kong: I fear the "one country, to systems" is about to completely be washed away as China wants Hong Kong to be 100% Chinese.

So, what is the road map ahead for Hong Kong?

I'm due to arrive in Hong Kong on September 12th, but I'm a bit .... ehhh.... frightened, because it appears more as a violent mob than peaceful protesters. And, this morning, I read that they are heading to the airport again to block of and interrupt as much as they possibly can.

      What is their agenda?

They don't even stick to a certain area... they are all over the place to destroy, disturb and interrupt as much as they possibly can.

      ..hmmm...

This looks like a whole lot more than I bargained for:

So pakarang, thanks for saying that your trip to Hong Kong which has somehow seemed kind of 'imminent' all summer is scheduled for September 12th.
Not knowing if your plans include any element of fixed work assignments, or are purely pleasure (or whether in either case involved the expense of flights and arrangements that cannot be changed) it is difficult to comment. Other than to say be alert and prepared for the worse, or at the very least inconveniences which might not feel like 'your' Hong Kong and the urban scene that you have fallen in love with.

Of course I'll be concerned for you, but not necessarily more so than usual!
It's strange really but we all of us tend to wish each other "safe flight". . When you land safely on your trips to Bangkok you most likely hire a car and are whizzing around the whole country - the one that has such horrific road safety statistics! .

I am also thinking that some years ago I was OK with the situation during the "Bangkok shutdown", but then there were certain distinct areas to avoid and I knew my way around.

Yeah, far from quiet in Hong Kong right now, but I'm going no matter what. My flight leaves Norway on September 11th and will arrive in the afternoon on the 12th. There might be some last minute changes to how the trip will progress but I'm going, that's guaranteed. No matter how violent it's going to get.

PS: This is for the most part, a so-called "work-trip", but there might be a generous amount of "holiday" within it too.

The troubling part of the demonstrations and unrest is that it pops up anywhere in Hong Kong without any warning, so as that the police can't organise themselves fast enough. "Normally" (whatever is considered normal) demonstration like these are in a certain limited area, but not so in Hong Kong this time. They are protesting all over the place. I'll be sure as to NOT wear a black shirt or any black clothes... I don't think police custody in Hong Kong or Beijing is anything for me.

Interesting about the "safe flight" indeed.... the flight is probably the safest part of my travels home to SE Asia.... the driving on Thai roads is probably the most dangerous thing I do in life, yet nobody wishes me safe driving on the worlds most dangerous roads. I always think of the safe flight to also include the actual vacation and the return to Norway.

Thank you for commenting, Thijs and Lady C. Thank you and bedankt!
