    Re: What place is this?

    Possibly a one-time or present-day monastery/convent, possibly France?

        Re: What place is this?

This really is a puzzle! I'm not all that good on French religious architecture but it seems to be Romanesque in style, and I keep trying to make it into Sémanque Abbey, Gordes because it is so like it in many respects! But it is not that, I know. One thing I find unusual is the double pile roof of what I take to be the church - unusual, and I hoped it might be a clue. But I haven't seen one yet in goodness knows how many abbeys.
Is/was it a Cistercian abbey, Yves? Currently still a monastic building or now privately owned? And is it in Provence or a neighbouring area?

          Re: What place is this?

I agree, we need a little clue. I was also thinking Senanque - what a wonderful place, I have memories of the warmth, the smell of lavender and the lizards scampering away in this stunning bit of Provence. But, I think you're right Ivy, and we're barking up the wrong (mediterranean) tree.

I really think you've got it, Mark. Comparing it bit by bit it seems right and I think I can even see the type of church roof I mentioned in #3288.

Wonderful part of the world Yves.

Well done Ivy for getting us close enough to solve the puzzle!

Let's stay Ecclesiastical with this one then (my record is 48 hours, I'm not optimistic that this one will last that long!).

By the way, I'm running out of cathedrals.

With a little bit of imagination, you may have a clue... I can't really see.
