    Re: What place is this?

Let us stay with lighthouses and snowy mountains for a while longer.
Where in the world do you find this famous lighthouse:

This should be a lot easier than my last one.

That was quick. Right lighthouse and place but I have a different name: Faro Fin del Mundo Light house, (Lighthouse at the end of the world) made famous from Jules Vern's novel of the same name. (Maybe Les Eclaireurs means the same in French??)

In any case, over to you Ivy.

Too quick Ivy.I should have liked to stroll a week in the Beagle canal!!
By the way, concerning La Hague I warmly recommend the lecture of Claudie Galley's Les Déferlantes. In english version The Breakers published by Maclehose Press. Not a masterpiece but a nice novel about this special area.
I think a norwegian edition exists but don't know the editor.

There is often a confusion between these lighthouses. The Fin del Mondo is the Jules Verne's one, built in 1884.Wooden construction paints in white. It was rehabilited in 1998 by Frenchman André Bronner and has a reply in La Rochelle(french atlantique coast).
The Eclaireurs lighthouse was built in 1920 after the death of Verne. It is actually the one on the picture puzzle.

Thank you, Yves, I'll see if it is possible to get the book "The Breakers" through our library.

Now, ready for the next puzzle? What and where is this?

                Re: What place is this?

I saw in Marrocco some minarets (Tiznit for instance) with wooden perches permitting, according to the legend,to hook souls of dead people.
So my first try is:a minaret somewhere in North Africa.

You certainly have the right idea, but it is not in that part of the continent that we normally mean when speakng of North Africa.

Yves, you are very much on the trail, but Ombugge has it - Timbuktu. Can you name the building, Ombugge? I am amazed, incidentally, I really thought this would keep you quite for several days!

Wild guess only. I just like the sound of that place and have made numerous jokes using that name in the past.
Which building would take somewhat more research.

I think we all make jokes about it! But I need to have the building named - that was part of my question, you know. Not difficult.

                              Could this be it????
Mali, West Africa. Adobe (mud brick) building methods. Djinguereber is one of three madrassas composing the University of Sankore. Built 1325 - 1327.

Yes, Ombugge, you have it. The Wiki page for Timbuktu http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timbuktu shows a more complete view of the mosque, and if you scroll right down you come to the photo I gave you. I was going to have the first pic. as back-up if you all failed to solve it in the next 6 months!
So, back to you for the next one.
