    Re: What place is this?

Sooo, that took a little longer!
Couldn't find any other similar bridge, so this way did not proceed.
I noticed then two coaches parking in the valley so that told me it must be a famous place. My frist guess was some kind of castle, so i checked the complete list of castles in alpine surroundings in Switzerland and Austria - without any effort.
The third possibility was to check the railroad. Here we see a double track railroad in an alpine valley, but there is so big river in this valley. So it must at a higher altitude. Double track railroad use to be here one of the main alp-crossing routes.
Now i cheched these routes with Google Earth and found along the Lötschberg route the town Kandersteg fitting to the surrounding. I tried to reconstruct the view and found some interesting pictures of a road through the rocks leading into the Gasterntal. And there we are:

    Nice place!!!

That was fun. I will need some time and will not come back until Monday, so if anyone want's to jump inbetween, please do!

      Re: What place is this?

      Well done Ralf.

Blast - I was 20km out on first guess!!

Nice place isn't it. I was struggling 'cos of the mainline railway - most of the places I could think of had single track rack railways, so I was getting down to the Gotthard or Lotschberg route when I got distracted by less interesting things - like work! (Railways!)

Look forward to your next puzzle for us.
      Cheers,

      Mark.

Well done Ralf! Very good piece of detective work. What a stunning view point that is, absolutely beautiful place.

I am glad you all enjoyed that one, i had a feeling there would be something to interest most of you. Looking forward to what you find for us Ralf, Monday will be fine, but like you say, if anyone else wants to throw one in the meantime, feel free.

Mark, oh you were so close with your first guess! I typed the name of the place you mentioned into Google Earth and was dismayed to see it zoom right in almost on top of my placemark! Great work to get so close so quickly.
Your charts, your radar, your eyes and ears - if all 4 agree, you may proceed with caution.

OK I'll post a stop-gap picture for your enjoyment, while we wait for a new and challenging one from Ralf:

            Re: What place is this?

Well, think we're too high for hills this time, so it's another one of the "where's Ombugge been lately" puzzles I reckon! If that's right, then we're very near an airport.

There was a good picture from KLIA on the Aviation thread very recently, so I don't think we're too far away from Singapore. My guess is Malaysia, Indonesia or perhaps as far as Thailand.

Those impressive Shipyard buildings in middle right / top must help (but not me!). Those apparently derelict buildings in middle bottom must also be helpful - somehow.

here is my simple thought ,it looks like the view i saw when i was flying into singapore airport. I saw a lot of the cargo ships around, he could have been swinging around after leaving the airport, as i approached from over the water.

Yep, that was my initial thought - but I still reckon those buildings in the front look derelict - and that would be unlikely in Singapore wouldn't it? Time to keep digging I think! At least we're in the same geographical area.

Just back from a wet shopping trip to the joys of Swindon - home of 'the Magic Roundabout' - five mini-roundabouts in a circle - infinite number of routes through it, end up going backwards in the middle!!

Anyway ... may have got lucky - Labuan Shipyard, Malaysia?

Well, I did not expect that one to last very long , especially since I have posted several pictures from there in various threads earlier.
We need something challenging here soon.

Perfect little puzzle for the weekend, Ombugge.
Now let's see, how long this will take:

A disused Sports Arena or Race Course?? Or maybe not disused, only closed for the winter??

Situated somewhere where using at least three languages are "necessary" to direct the patrons to the many Admission Counters.
One of the languages being English could indicate an International function.
That leaves two "local" languages, one of which is French and the other maybe German?
That points to Switzerland, but where??

I venture a guess; Hardturm in Zurich, scene of FIFA World Cup matches in 1954???

I was searching around Germany yesterday, but had no luck. I did wonder if this was part of a disused theme park of some kind, but Ralf did not steer Mark away from his guess about a sports venue of some kind, so i will also follow that line of enquiry.

I think i can see the word 'Admission' on the signs, but the layout of the fencing confused me a little, looks like you are led back to the area you came from once you have been to the ticket window, and not into the venue itself.

I also think that maybe this place is abandoned or closed down for longer than just the winter or summer, normally when a place is closed for just a season maintenance is kept up. But it looks like nothings been done here for a long while, no painting, and the grass and moss is growing strongly on the ground.
