Always a working town, H'våg has a lot more industry than just a herd of buses taking the masses up to Nordkapp.

Nordstjernen, fishing boat, lorry and skip!!

When the Hurtigruten is in, it feels like the town was built around it.

Honningsvåg is home to Nordkapp maritime fagskole og videregående skole - specialising in all further education relevant to the area.

With a beautiful fjordside location, the school serves a large area - it specialises in hotel and service trades, maritime services and even has its own Fishing Vessel, Finnmarksfisk.

    Finnmarksfisk.

And possibly even more impressive is the Bridge Simulator.

Amadea and Albatros on the berth, late June 2009, the glorious evening sun reflecting on the fjord.

This is the view from Nordkappveien - since then the new Kai Nord has been constructed, giving somewhere for the very big ships to moor (as per the Oriana photos in the 'Cruise Ships in Norway 2011' thread.

Another ship picture this time - 2011 - Vistamar parked amongst the shops.

From some angles Narvesen (the newsagents) actually looks more seaworthy!!!

Today's contribution from the Wiltshire branch of 'Visit Honningsvåg' - magical light, calm harbour, wonderful reflections.

That's a picture that really gets better when one knows the story behind it.

Summer time is painting time in Honningsvåg - everything that's yellow gets yellower.

That usually includes tourists who lean before they read, and the two girls that busily take on the job.

They occassionally have to have a break for other activities, as below. No-one else around to catch the rope. Incidentally KS Norge is on the other end of that bit of string!!!

Have had some fantastic days in H'våg, but this was June 2011 - with Oriana, Lofoten and Norge on the berth in full sun, hard to imagine anything more idyllic.

Being a bear of very little brain (like Pooh) - it never occurred to me that the self-timer photo would have this effect. I haven't a clue what I thought it would look like, but it wasn't this!! Ah well, you live and learn.

This one is also on Jan-Olav's new Crystal Serenity thread.

Small boats and or very big PoloUK?

A little more ahead and they could have stepped directly from the bow to the pub....

Can quite understand why you'd be sad to leave Symphony. You're right though, time moves on, different challenges, different opportunities - but you're always left with the good memories. Thanks for sharing that with me.

Re light - that's the thing with north Norway though isn't it - sometimes the light is astonishing, sometimes there just isn't any - or worse still everything is the colour of milk. Wonderful place though!
