(By the way; I've cleaned up a bit in my PM section, so if you tried to get hold of me, there should now be space for some more PMs)

Room rates include a buffet in the evening, and coffee is available from a machine in a pleasant seating area on the ground floor.

This was a small single bedded room which I liked because of the cosy feeling that comes from the shape of the window and the angles of the roof of this modernised old building.

The hotel’s “Restaurant Bauer”….I liked the sounds of trickling water from this cascade, and live piano background music. (I’d eaten a delicious piece of cod before I’d thought to photograph it!)

    Thon Hotel Lofoten

    19 March 2012

A stylish room on the 6th floor (there are higher floors).
Next morning, looking out to the extreme right I could see out over the flat roof of the adjoining building to the harbour entrance, but that building, and the angle of the quay hides the quay itself and I could only just make out the superstructure of little Nordstjernen, which I didn’t even attempt to photograph.

But straight out of the window, what a view!

The window is actually a door opening onto a small balcony.
This is looking directly from the window…

…but stepping out onto the balcony there is a view out to sea.

This is a single bedded room in this Thon Hotel, which I think was previously a Scandic hotel. Single bed rooms in hotels are so often rather small and uninspiring, but this room was really spacious and had a nice wooden floor. The disadvantage would be that you can’t be in bed and watch TV, which is fixed to the wall above the desk in the right of the photo….hence the placing of the settee.

But I certainly didn’t have time for any TV watching on this trip. I’d been out with Olaf and Kristian Horsevik in the afternoon, and took them for dinner in the hotel restaurant, which is actually the adjoining Egon restaurant. Eat as much as you want pizza buffet! – yummy! Guests are also served a buffet breakfast here, and I expect this arrangement is inherited from the Scandic days, as I’ve encountered it elsewhere (for example at Scandic Byporten in Oslo).

The reception staff were friendly and helpful, and altogether it was a most pleasant stay.
