Default Chart Room

Can anyone provide me with any Information about what the chart room of the SS Norway looked like. The room I am talking about was behind the bridge and behind the small safety control area behind the bridge. The chart room (according to the blue prints) had two smaller rooms connected to is on the port and starboard side, information about those small rooms would also be great. If anyone you provide me with information about the Chart room it would be much appreciated.

Any PHOTOS of the area would be best.

Thanks very much,

Miguel Murdoch

The "chart" room on the Norway was on the port side, immediately behind the bridge itself. It was not an enclosed room, rather a part of the bigger "safety" area which contained fire door panel, watertight door panel, fire alarms and the big desk with the detailed GA plan of every deck.

However, the latest years all the charts were stored on the bridge itself, and the chart in use were laid out on a desk on the port side of the bridge.

On the starboard side, there was a small room, called the ISM office the latest years. On the port side there was a similar room and this was the office for the training officer (Safety Manager) until the last drydock in 2001 when the large radio room further aft on Fjord Deck was converted into a common office for the chief officer, safety manager and chief fire fighter.

I'm sure Jan Olav has pictures of this area, unfortunately I don't.

I do... I'll try to come up with them as soon as I go on free turn (currently on my work-weeks: remind me should I forget).

Wow thanks very very much for the information!

What was the ISM office used for? What was in this area? What does ISM stand for(dumb question?)?

What was the safety manager's office used for after the 2001 drydock?

If the area on the blueprints labeled "Chart Room" was not actually used for chart's on the Norway what was it actually used for? What was in the room?

Thanks very much,

Miguel Murdoch

It's not a dumb question, actually I apologize for not saying it first. ISM stands for International Safety Management and is a quality assurance and safety system implemented on ships from 1995. The ISM requires every ship and company to have procedures and checklist for every operation and this makes of course a lot of paperwork. So the little office on the starboard side behind the bridge was used for all the ISM documents - procedures, checklists, work descriptions etc and was maintained by one of the first officers. Not the most wanted job, but it had to be done

The "chart room" was used for charts not in use (other parts of the world), publications, pilot books etc.

I don't know what became of the safety managers office after drydock 2001 since I left two months before, but I would think it became some kind of office for the bridge or something.
