There has even been an opera based on these events - "The Death of Klinghoffer” - by the Americam composer John Adams, libretto by Alice Goodman. I have seen it in the theatre (as I have Adam’s “Nixon in China” also based on actual events of modern times), but there was also a rather realistic and cinema-like production of it on television some years ago that was very impressive. Live singing when this film was made, not dubbed.
The opera has understandably been controversial, though I would say it is impartial in the dramatization of both hostage and terrorist characters, succeeding to explore the wider issues in an extraordinarily poignant and moving way. More about the opera in this wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Death_of_Klinghoffer Last edited by Seagull; 02-09-2010 at 11:20 AM. Reason: added link |
