It might be fun to take the fast boat out on a nice day but I don't like the idea of hanging by the one cable.

It's a lot safer than hanging in two cables and two release hooks, like the normal Life Boats. If one cable parts, or one hook fail to open as and when required, you may end up hanging in a vertical attitude.

If the one cable seen here fails you drop into the water. (Hopefully not from a great height)
If well maintained and regularly inspected, that should NEVER happen. (As far as I know, with FRCs like this, it never have)

With the Whitaker Capsules it has though, killing a lot of peoples in the past.
They are banned from use outside the US now, I believe.

Pilotdane, Ombugge is right, give me a single fall anyday over a double fall ! What we also use and is not clear in the picture is the use of painters, a line each forward and aft, this helps in keeping the boat alongside and in sync with the mother vessel ! Also the time taken to launch this boat and be clear of the vessel is not more than 20-30 seconds. But yes, this 20 sec period is scary. Recovery is nearly as equally quick however the operators must be well trained and have a lot of practice in doing this.

AND it really is fun to drive these ones, a 230 HP water jet engine makes them highly manoeuverable ! In fact I personally have been in these and launched in 8 ft swells when I was working offshore South africa !

Great and really interesting shot, Kristian... thank you so much for sharing that image. Love seeing her big propellers... surprised at their size!

The RS-vessel stationed in Kristiansund has changed AGAIN! I don't know how they manage...., why can't one vessel stay here?
Anyway, todays vessel is "Oscar Tybring IV" which just got an alarm when I planned to take its picture moored. What an engine sound when starting!!!
