    Default World's FISHING BOATS

There is a lot of pictures featuring Fishing Boats under various threads, but not a specific one for them, as far as I have found.

I'll start off with some pics from the Fishing Boat Parade in Aalesund in 2006.
(These pics are taken from Aalesund Havn and smp.no)

The fishing boats lined up in Breisundet to start the parade through Hessafjorden and in to Aspoyvaagen.

Here is AIS showing names and positions of the boats in the parade.

    Coming around Slinningsodden.....

    and in to Asproyvaagen.

Turning at Aspoyvaagen to go to their designated mooring positions.

AIS showing name and position of the vessels as they move alongside at Havnegata and Stornespiren.

    Nice to be among friends.

    OK, where is the PARTY???

    The party is over.

Excellent idea to gather all the fishing vessels into their own thread. I had been thinking of doing the same myself for a long while, but hadn't gotten that far yet.

Thanks for taking care of it!

There is also an old bridge of a fishing boat, which is the preferred playground for (my) children:

Even though this is the preferred thread for fishing vessels, please note that there are also many pictures of these types of ships in another thread as well:

Love the bow and style of Concordia... thanks Germen!

The red hulled Concordia pictured above would be really cool if she was ever converted to a private yacht!

After all the larger, ocean going fishing boats here is fishing small scale. Until this weekend I did not know anyone trawled for shrimp with such small boats. Here is one of three small boats trawling in the Intracoastal Waterway of North Carolina.

50 hp is enough to pull a net, but I am surprised that the small propeller of an outboard has enough "bite" for brute force pulling. He managed about 1 knot while pulling the net.

During a trawl the fisherman sorts the previous catch. He did not seem to get much. A lot of seaweed, some bait fish, crab and manybe a pound (1/2 kilo) of shrimp.

When the trawl is finished he motors to the side of the waterway and anchors. Then the trawl is pulled in by hand. You can see him pulling out one of the two spreader boards that "fly" at the mouth of the net holding it open underwater.

And finally untangling the net and picking out the catch.

Yes, we do have larger fishing boats in North Carolina. Here is a more normal size for a shrimp boat.

This boat is based beyond the other (west) end of the island but the Lockwood Folly inlet which is right next to their dock is not well dredged and has quickly changing sand bars. Larger boats often cannot safely pass, especially at low tide. They must motor about 15 miles east through the ICW to the other end of the island and get to the ocean via the Cape Fear River.

I still want to put another boat into the water for leisure sailing- and saw this but haven't yet persuaded 'someone else'. With it's oversized wheelhouse, it is still line fishing for mackerel at the moment but is being replaced by a new-build bigger boat.

I like the fact it has a large enough wheelhouse for 3 people to sit in if the weather gets bad while at the same time it has a lot of open deck space.

It is based on a 'Jorgesen Stord' ex. lifeboat. Any thoughts would be very welcome as would any information about the builder.

What a great looking craft! You certainly will not need to add any electronics to the wheelhouse. The only thing possibly missing is an autopilot. I assume there is storage in the bow.

What speed will she make? I'm guessing cruise at 8 knots?

Move her to North Carolina and add air conditioning and I might even get my wife to sign the check.

I'm so glad that I'm not alone in thinking this is a good boat. I think I could even manage to navigate my way out of the loch myself in this .

No idea what speed she will do but I'll ask. There is dry storage in the bow but I'm wondering if there is actually room to sleep. Air conditioning is probably not needed over here

I am sure you could canvas/tent over the main deck area for the occasional over night. A v berth in the bow and a port potty would be good if you plan to spend much time onboard.
