From our previous home, we had this long-running thread about the Genesis Class cruise ships of Royal Caribbean International ( http://captainsvoyage.7.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=20 ).

This is the continuation on the new board.

For those of you that are able to understand Norwegian, this clip may be of interest as they show some of the areas on board together with some brief explanations.

For those that have been wondering about the lifeboats of this new giant and the capacity of those, there is a thread on Cruise Talk with some images ( http://www.travelserver.net/travelpa...=1&t=010657&p= ). According to CT, the capacity will be 370 of each lifeboat and they speculate that their length will be around 55 feet.

Royal Caribbean International steps back in time and relaunches bigger differences between the classes on board: those in suites and those in cabins.

Similarly as the company is refurbishing all their 2000 suites prior to 2010, they also launch a brand new 'suite-program'. This means more luxury to those that are able to pay for larger rooms on board: almost like in old times with up to three different classes on board.

It is correct to state that there is differences in services to those who pays for a suite versus a standard room, according to Roar Meidal, Nordic Area boss, at Royal Caribbean.

The common description of these services are classes, but for us it is very important to make sure that these extras are additional goodies on top of an already extraordinary program of benefits for all guests.

Before, VIP guests were on equal line with all other guests on board but now, a VIP will have reserved special seats at the theater, the skating rink and priority at spa treatments, hair dressers and excursions. A private ****tail party with the Captain including bathrobes, slippers, a dedicated suite-butler and an own pillow menu.

Something also brand new is areas of the ship reserved for only VIP guests: such as by the pool on both the Voyager and Freedom class. There will also be separate check in areas, own security controls and escorts to the suites by a higher ranking officer on board. Additionally, their luggage will be transfered separately from the airport to the suite.

A few pics of the Oasis of the Seas on her recent Sea Trials. Wow she is big...

Great photos. I've got to ask what are probably 2 very stupid questions but..

why the balloon?
is it taking photos or is it monitoring something to do with the trials?
or did it just happen to be in the area and decide to take a look ?

and why the tug being 'towed' ? is this something to do with monitoring the trials or is it a safety precaution of some sort?

No idea about the tug.. But the Blimp is actually going to be a type of ride on the ship. You can make out the platform underneath it where passengers will ride up to get an awesome view of ship and surroundings.. It will land on the small circular deck on the port aft deck.

Not a ship I would sail on, but still very interesting to see pics of her...and her sheer size! The front shot really shows how wide she is! I'd love to see her in real life and stand next to her! I already thought the ss Rotterdam was big when I saw her up close

While I think she a beautiful left or right side profile for a modern ship, she looks really weird and VERY topheavy when seen straight from behind:

My first reaction when glancing at this image was: What the h... is this, a new big Cattle Carrier??
When I looked a bit closer I realised that it was to become another floating shopping mall with hotel facilities.

Here is why I got confused at first:

No idea about the tug.. But the Blimp is actually going to be a type of ride on the ship. You can make out the platform underneath it where passengers will ride up to get an awesome view of ship and surroundings.. It will land on the small circular deck on the port aft deck.

I hope that Blimp is tethered to the ship and not free flying? Can you imagine being left behind on that platform under the Blimp as the ship speeds away?

As for the tug, that is a precaution during the first yard trail. All systems are new and things can easily go wrong. I noticed one more free running tug in one of thew images.

Why the ship appears to be "towing the tug"? This is a Tractor Tug, which can push and pull with near same force, hence this arrangement. Besides, it is safer for the tug when the ship move at some speed.

I wonder if anyone who travels on these---things--has ever heard of a sort-of old fashioned idea called a "cruise"...You have a small "stateroom" on a "ship". You get up in the morning and have breakfast, and look at this thing called the "sea". You sit in a deck chair with a good book or some needlework, and watch the "sea" and breathe "sea air". You eat lunch. You have conversations with your fellow passengers. You have a walk around the promenade deck for a bit of exercise. You nap. You have tea. You watch a spectacular sunset. You dress for dinner. You eat. You go to a "show" inside the "ship" at night. You go to sleep.

Somedays, the "ship" stops at a piece of land to which the "sea" is attached . This is called a "port". It is usually very different from your home. You get off the "ship" and look around. Maybe purchase some trinkets. You meet new people. Experience new cultures.

You repeat this day after day for a set period of time. You go home a bit more knowledgeable and aware of the wonders of the world and its inhabitants. You also go back home feeling relaxed, well-cared for, pampered and rested. That's why such periods of time are called "vacations" or "holidays"......

The sheeps pay for their carriage with their lives... so or so!

The people have the opportunity to choose where to travel on. Some kind of advantage that the silliest ones are concentrated in such sheep containers in the future. So they do not trampling around on our paths...

SHE IS BIGGGG!!! ... and as mentioned, the stern and bow view shows her immense size and she does indeed appear quite top-heavy. This is a really big monster of the seas... and the similarities between her and a cattle carrier is not that much...

I forgot to mention last week that the blimp broke free and was later found on the surface (not flying) of the Baltic. That has to give you confidence.
