Operated by the Holland America Line. She is one of a pair of sisters, the other being the MS Zaandam. The MS Volendam was completed by her Italian builders in 1999, her sister following in 2000. Both ships cruise out of Australia and New Zealand, covering the South Pacific during the Southern Hemisphere summer. Both also sail out of Alaska during the Northern Hemisphere summer.
This one took a bit of finding, and just when i thought i had a 100% match with her various features, i learnt she had a sister. Umm, which one was in the dry dock? A bit of further research led me to an article written by Reuben Goossens, he travelled aboard her in late 2010. In the article he mentioned the ship would be going to Singapore for a refit in March 2011. The Google Earth image is dated April 2011, so obviously just a couple of weeks after her arrival at the dry dock.
Reubens article concerning the ship.
