    Default Cruiseships on Google Earth.

    Cruiseships on Google Earth.

Google Earth is a free program and great tool for those of you looking for unusual pictures, love spying on your neighbors or even your favorite cruise ships.

I have spent some days during my free time browsing for cruise ships in different places around the world, and have managed to create a nice collection of such.

I will post one image at the time in order to have them identified as we go along. Once the ship is identified, I will continue posting the next image. This means you have to participate to be able to continue seeing new shots. Please also state why you think it’s that exact ship (what gives it away Question ) to clear any possible doubt.

    Have a good investigation!

To have a look at the ships we posted at our old forum, you may wish to have a look here:

A Star Cruises vessel and what I think is a Radisson Seven Seas-ship at Hong Kong:

    Some images in Bergen:

The second ship is definitely an old NAL ship whilst the small one on the first shot, is probably ...uhmm... Europa?

    Default Bremen - not Europa

I think the small one in the first picture is Bremen, she is easily recognized by her square sundeck on the top deck and the zodiacs behind the funnel. The ferry is of course Fjordline's Jupiter.
Bremen will call at Bergen on June 29.

Excellent... thank you so much Sigve: I totally agree with your observations!

PS: I could never have picked up the Jupiter though: that is a vessel I have never seen in real life myself. I think I remember reading she ended up somewhere in Asia (or Hong Kong?).

I noticed some of the images on GE for Alang Beach India, also included a couple of ships.

Based on the image date, which ship could this be?

Also this one is quite recent:

That is the first time I've seen a sub underway caught on Google Earth.

I like looking at the russian bases and fijords around Murmansk. There are too many old rusting hulls to count.

Actually, studying all areas of the Russian territory can be quite interesting... there are a lot of shapes, buildings, and things (large holes in the ground) which we have no idea what is.

On the first one, it looks like she had two swimming pools and a midships funnel. Possibly 7 lifeboats on each side....

And the funnel seems to look steamlined on the front edge.

How about the one which ended up as RITA?

Can't recall what her last name in service was before she became RITA, and headed for the scrappers?

Then there was the .... Commodore Cruise Line ship... Enchanted Isle?

... and I also seem to remember a certain former ALBATROS...?

I think that something i just dug out of the depths of my bookmark folder might help in this quest!

Peter Knego's visit to Alang in 2004!!! Just have a look at the ships on there, the ships on googe must be one of these

I had forgotten about that website and that was an interesting read!

I think you may have found the ships we have seen on GE.

In my opinion it is extremely difficult to identify a ship from the air, when the bow is aready partly removed...

Especially when the images quality is not so good, compared to the later images that show the southern end of Alang beach, the older images for the northern end are in a much lower resolution.

But, i think the clues needed to identify these ships are contained within the writing and photos on Peter Knego's page "The Road To Alang". He was at Alang at more or less the same time that the Google Earth images were taken.
In the article he is aboard one of the ships and he describes what he can see on either side. There is also a photo that shows 2 ships side by side, one a bit closer to the beach than the other, and also in a more advanced stage of destruction. He tells us the names of both of these vessels. So, i think it may be possible to identify some of those vessels on the G/E image.
