    Nice and moody pictures Sterkoder!

It would be interesting to know why all these vessels were calling Kristiansund.
    Bad weather? Holidays?

    Oh, this is quite usual.
On any day we have any number between 10-20 offshore vessels in.
The really unusual thing is if there are 5 or fewer.
One day before christmas last year we had to following days with none calling Vestbase with their 9+ docks. Everybody talked about the emptyness.

The reason for calling Kristiansund is of course the largest offshore supply and support base of the country, Vestbase.
They also use our city for crew change, maintenance, provisions, fuel, water and such.
If there also are a huge storm, large vawes and other form of really bad weather present in the ocean, our quays are packed, and then with ships moored outside of each other.

For now I do not know how to attach the photos because looks like the links don't work if I try to use the sistem's URL attach'.

I have more pictures with other ships but I will put them later. Sorry if this is publicity to the sharing pictures website, and if it's so pls delete this post until I figure how to correct the mistake.

    Thanks also for the wellcoming.

    Ahhhh...., finally!!!
I've been hunting this vessel since last year when she began sailing in and out from Kristiansund Base (at Averøy).
She was seldom in town and only at Vestbase when needed for refill of any fluid, be it fuel, water or whatever....
Why I've been after this one...? Oh, well...., special design, maybe...

    Here's "Stril Orion"

    #1067 & #1068 - Stril Orion - What an impressive vessel!

I do like the array of deckhead lights in the Ops Room, Big S. There are other photos of this ship on the internet but none with this feature. You caught her at the right time of day and at the right elevation.

Wow Sterkoder, how fascinating. If I had come across other photos of Stril Orion before they hadn’t made an impression on me as I don’t remember, but in your sequence of photos you show us all aspects from your spotterplace viewpoints. That is a most impressive “pakarang view”, but while impressed in one way by the “different” design of this vessel, I am also a bit in sympathy with janihudi’s reservations…it’s in #1067/3 when I hesitate over this huge chunk of ship, oh and thanks for the viewpoint in the first of that post where the height is clearly demonstrated against the buildings.

Seems real smart inside, and you practically got interior views there at those clever angles Clipper already alluded to! Yes she is very impressive vessel…but I just need to get used to her profile

Wondered what the General Arrangement for an AHTS might be and found this (for Hadi XII).

Does anyone know, is the arrangement typical?

Don't know if it's typical...., but here's GA-plans from an AHTS built in 2011

Maybe I can help a little here.
    In the first place there is a gap of almost 30 years between the two vessels featured above, but with a number of similarities;
    - The Hadi 12 was built in Spain in 1983 and was a mid-size AHTS at the time at 6600 Bhp., and not "state of the art" as far as design and equipment was concerned. Specs here: http://www.hadihammam.com/downloads/...II%20Flyer.pdf
With that crane installed in the middle of her deck she will no longer be an AHTS in any case.

    - The 2011 Chinese built AHTS is a mid-size boat today at 10,700 Bhp and far from "state of the art", but with some good equipment, although there is some "knock-off" as well.

State of the art AHTS at the time Hadi 12 was built as the Callardo was the UT 708, which had replaced the UT 704.

State of the art AHTS today is in the 20-25,000 Bhp. class and with a Sh... load of sophisticated equipment. Sterkoder see them daily in Kr.sund, but here is GA for one: http://www.olympic.no/download.asp?o...2A514C800E.pdf
Olympic Octopus was built in 2006 and has already become "outdated" compared to some of the newest AHTS in the market.

But there is a need for the smaller and simpler AHTSs in many markets, where cost is at utmost importance and the jobs can be done efficiently by smaller boats.

"Rem Commander" at dock 7 down at Vestbase. Here's some action, as equipment is being loaded in a Swire long basket

Thank you both. Excellent links and info. I had no idea the accommodation on these vessels could be so extensive - 44 in the dredgebrokers vessel! I imagined maybe 20 max.

And the capabilities ..... the more I read, the more impressed I become. No wonder these ships cost tens of millions of dollars.

Some specification sheets and General Arrangement plans of AHTS's for those interested. The 3 vessels are to my mind a fairly traditional (maybe conventional is a better word) layout. Although the 'D'-class does have some nice features to play with, eg. ROV Hanger and an Anchor Handling frame in the aft deck.

There are plans and information for the whole Swire fleet available on:
    http://www.swire.com.sg/fleetclassintro.aspx

But for AHTS then the following would be worth looking at.
    D-Class:
    http://www.swire.com.sg/vessel_detai...tus=0&class=13

    V-Class:
    http://www.swire.com.sg/vessel_detai...tus=0&class=11

    P-Class:
    http://www.swire.com.sg/vessel_detai...atus=0&class=7

Just click on the GA Plan link at the top of each page for a plan of the ship. All of these are designed by IMT which Swire have been using recently rather than Ulstein. If you want to see the Ulstein boats then the B-Class (1998), W-Class (2002) and C-Class (2011) show the progression in design.

The new C-Class are taking the names of the old UT704's that Swire have retired recently (the Challenger was sent away for to be scrapped this year). The Chieftan is still working down in New Zealand so the plans are on the website, she is a UT714 built in Japan but is pretty similar to the 704's. Makes an interesting comparison to the new C-Class, both were the latest technology in thier day. I wonder if the new ones will last as long!

    Old C-Class (UT714):

    New C-Class (UT786):

Wow, many thanks Ginnick. I think I've just used up this month's bandwidth on large PDFs.

My problem now is that I have 100 more questions .....
