Went to an exhibition about the fjordsteamers and very early car ferries here in Kristiansund this afternoon.
Many old items to look at, many, many pictures and informative text.
Here are a couple of life-wests from around mid- to late 1950's, one from B/F GAUTE and one from B/F GISLE

The steeringwheel from B/F GISLE, a ferry rebuilt from a navy mine sweeper and operated as a carferry from the 1940's

Here's B/F GISLE at Kvalvåg dock near my home. Buses had trouble at high tide...

B/F GJEMNES at Bremsnes dock in the 1950's. The connection was Bremsnes-Kristiansund, and the very last ferry to operate will be B/F BJØRNSUND on the 19th December 2009, as the new tunnel will open at noon.

B/F KVANNE RØKKUM II built in 1938 for 9 cars. As we see, very tight on board

I visited Jurong Port, Singapore today and took some pictures of the various ferries that visited there:

They carry container trucks and tankers to the outlaying islands and to Batam in Indonesia. Simple, inexpensive and functional.

Strange name for a ferry: Sekken:
This "Sekken" is ex. "Hareid". The reason for the name is that this ferry took over the route from Molde to Sekken after the smaller "Edøy" retired. (EDØY being the 'Julefergå'...., by the way).

Sekken is an island south of Molde, and the island also had it's own bus company until some years ago, Sekken Auto AS.

The most special thing with the car ferry "Sekken" is that all the other ferries in Fjord1 MFR have green decks, but the people of Sekken island only wanted a blue deck....

Don't ask me why the ferry only have a sheltering lift bow in one end. I don't know.

Thought I saw a new ferry down by the Kristiansund Mech. this afternoon. It was not so, it was just "Tingvoll" which had got a new paintover.
They've changed the livery a bit, and gone away from the black belt around the bridge windows.

In April 2008 she looked like this

Does anyone have a good image of the car ferry Trondheim and / or Fosen?

    Reason for asking?

Take a look at an upcoming post at my blog?

Oh the frustration (but very pleasant frustration ) as I try to check through my photos to see if I had seen/photographed these ferries (ummm up to July 2006 I had managed to keep a searchable database up to date with ALL the boats and ships that appeared on my photos ...) ... I actually went through the likely Trondheim fjord stuff quite recently (after being inspired by pakarang's lighthouse at Agdenes photos... ) ... well I'll try again, but still no car ferry pics between there and Trondheim . . .

Ok, at least the entry in wikipedia is rather good - "fourth most trafficked car ferry line in Norway" !

Do I get marks for trying Captain?????????

I tried even harder!!!! :-I have just found a photo I took in 2003, and if you look on the right hand side you can just make out a ferry . . .
The previous photo taken that day was of Munkholmen on leaving Trondheim 40 minutes or so earlier– so maybe!

Guess I'm going to be stalked a lot in the future....

No words yet as to which of the two ferries I will be on, but so much I know, I might also be sailing on a ferry called SOGN later in the spring when the other ferries head for dry dock.
