Default Newer cruise ships that look like veterans

Despite the success of floating giant bricks, there are still some newer ships with classic lines. For example, when I spotted the Deilmann ship "Deutschland" in Copenhagen in 2009, I thought her to be much older than from 1998, which I afterwards learnt with quite a bit of surprise. Or what do you think?

Elegant proportions and a decent stern, in my opinion. However, I find her new funnel painting as seen in the German Wikipedia article http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutschland_%281998%29 rather ugly - the previous one was low-key and as elegant as the ship, but the new one is an in-your-face advertisement with their "five stars", at the same time unattractive and laughable.

What do you think? What other ships built in the last ca. 20 years would you cite as examples of classic elegance?

Well, "Deutschland" might not be as bricky as many others, but she lack spring, curves, as the classic ships so in my eyes, she's not one of the classics. Sorry...

Here are lines, curves, this old lady got it all...., not made within the latest 20 years though, and now sadly dead since october 2010.

It's not my intention to steal this thread at all, but every human should be able to study such curves ones. Floating bricks like new cruiseships are just functional for their use, nothing else.
Also this old lady got curves.

At some point the designers lost the spring line, and I wonder why...?? It might have to do with the cost of curved floors in cabins, curved decks and the construction around that, I don't know.

Is this one any good Svein? I know Jan Olav likes the look of this one. BUT way outside Gestumblindi's 20 year rule.

By the way, does this one look familiar - she's looking towards us this time.

Now to think about Gestumblindi's question, and to find a curvy new one!

Incidentally, a day after I saw "Deutschland" in Copenhagen (June 5, 2009), I was indeed delighted to see "Saga Ruby" as well, and here's the proof:

    :-)

You are certainly right that when compared to her, "Deutschland" is not nearly as curvy and appealing to the eye. But then, which cruise ship built in the last 20 years is? Still, especially the stern of "Deutschland" is much more pleasing than what we usually see in ships of her generation, I would say.

Oh yes, sure its familiar, but nothing more. I pictured the rose, while you did the ruby

Sorry for being the one bringing this thread OT, but as many of the members here know, I can't help it

As I surf through internet, I will try to remember to look for a really nice cruiseship built within the latest 20 yers, promise...

Cost, that's the key word. It's much cheaper and easier to build cubic blocks. They also include more space than rounder shapes.
The really interesting question for me is: what was the reason that ships were built with a spring line? There just have to be some reason associated to engineering capacities and technology?
