More for those who like details, especially of towing vessel.
Here is some pictures from a fairly new Anchor Handling Tug (Built in China 2009). The boat may be new but the level of technology is far from what is found on larger Offshore Vessels built in Europe, or for high end Operators.
(Some pictures from a sister vessel was shown in the Tug thread earlier)

No external pictures, since she was moored in the middle of a bunch of other tugs, with a "HK Barge" moored on Port side, but here is at least a view of the deck and superstructure:


The Forecastle deck with the Windlass:

No Mooring drums.

A colleague was testing the Emergency Fire Pump:

Portable Diesel driven pump. (Small ship so this is OK)

Swing Rope Gantry on either side for Personnel Transfer to other vessel, or to Platform boat landings:

More sophisticated equipment:

The other half of the fire bucket is on the opposite side.

When you see electric fitting packed up in plastic, you know they are of high quality:

The Bridge equipment is at least a little more sophisticated and up to modern standard:







But the lay-out does not indicate much understanding of the functions by whoever designed the panels.

Ok, Ok, I know, you want to see the Engine room.
The Main Engines are 1900 Bhp each:




3 Generators:




The Electric Switchboard is in the open Engine Room:

The Engine Room is quite "roomy":

There is little else to use the space below deck for.

The Bow Thruster is direct Diesel driven:

No need for electric motor and complex variable frequency control here.

With the exhaust out through the side:

If a pasty Bow Fender gets in the way, just remove a piece.

The Oily Water Separator looks like something out of a Technical Museum:

But it function and meet MARPOL requirements.

At the other end, the Steering Gear:


Somebody must have had a lot of time on their hand to paint circles around every "finger hole" in the floor plates:

Colour coded to indicate the function of the valve below. (No computerized remote control here)

No walk-in Freezer/Chiller here:

One Household chest freezer for each type product is much easier to manage.

but i wonder;
you are checking vessel out for transportarion and insurance,
making images of that what cabn be use when something happen.
do you not get any problems for placing them here,i mean not every shipowner wants that the whole world to know what the situation is onboard,speccially when its bad.
new build vessel owners don't want that complicated or total new machinery is to found on the net taken by someone who was on board,and what whad to be topsecret

I am glad it was fire hose test. I thought he had too much to drink and could not wait to get to the head.

So far I have not had any complains. Maybe CVF isn't so widely read as we think?

Sophistication??? You mean those in post # 82???

Jokes aside, I have given that some thought. I try to avoid posting anything that may get me into trouble on the "negative" side. There isn't any "Top Secret" equipment on any vessel I get to visit, or have any dealings with. The one exception was a Submarine, but I was not allowed on board, or to take any pictures from the outside. (I don't think I would have been able to get in through the hatch on that Sub anyhow)

It's been a long time since I posted anything in this thread, but here is a newbuilt AHTS still being fitted out at Batam.
21,000 Bhp and estimate 250 m.t. Bollard Pull. (Yet to be tested)

I didn't get a good external shot, but here is an identical sister ship seen at the same yard May last year:

The main difference is the Offshore crane, which is missing on this one.

I can assure you, it is a long climb from the deck to the bridge.

The winch has a capacity of 500 m.t. pull on all three drums.
The Main drum can hold 6100 m. of 76 mm. diam. wire:
