Re: Details of ships and boats
Let us start the trip down from the bridge to below deck.
The Muster Deck is at Level 7:

From there it is a bit of a climb to get to deck 6: (At least on Port side)

The next level is almost blocked by parts of the Diving Spread:

This is what it looked like before the Diving Spread was installed:

Re: Details of ships and boats
Finally we get below deck.
First to a large Store Room at Tween Deck Level:

This is as it looked in April, 2010. Now filled with Dive Gas Cylinders.
Access between compartments below deck is by watertight doors:

Hydraulically operated. (Small handle by pump, large handle manually)
Status of doors opened/closed are displayed on the Bridge and in the Engine Control Room.

Re: Details of ships and boats
This vessel has Diesel/Electric Propulsion, hence there are no Main Engine(s), only Generators.
5 x Cat 3516TA, 2100 kW each

On my last visit there were a problem with exhaust leak:

Awaiting spare parts and a maintenance period to effectuate repairs.
+ 1 x Cat 3508B, 1,700 kW:

There is also an Emergency Generator of 160 kW (No pics)

Re: Details of ships and boats
Power distribution is via the Main Switchboard:

Stepped down to 440V and 220V / 60 Hz for domestic consumption.
690V main power for propulsion is distributed via Variable Frequency Controls situated in the Thruster Rooms:

Re: Details of ships and boats
2 x Main Thrusters, Azipod 120, 3000 kWe each:

Fixed Pitch propeller, variable speed (RPM)
Steering Gear is incorporated in the Thruster assembly:

Driven by separate Hydraulic Power Units with dual pumps:

Emergency Operation of the Thruster pods is possible from the Thruster Room:

That should be enough details from one ship, even for the self-confessed "detail freaks" among the CVF members.
PS> Majority of the pictures are from April, 2010, only some from the recent visit to this ship in Chiwan, China.

Re: Details of ships and boats
In contrast to the near new and highly sophisticated CSV Normand Clough, here is another vessel servicing the same basic purpose, but in shallow waters only.
May I present details of the Support and Accommodation vessel "Trinity Revival", originally built as the Japanese Research Vessel "Kaiyo Maru" in 1976. Since then she has had several owners; 88 GSI MERLION - 93 MERLION - 03 SARKU SIPADAN - 08 TRINITY REVIVAL.
Pictures are from Oct. 2009 at Eastern Anchorage, Singapore.
