Thank you very much... More will come Thursday or Friday after I have seen Celebrity Eclipse. It will be the first time I see a Solstice class cruise ship. Then on monday I'll have my six-hour-written Law exam at University of Oslo, then on tuesday QM2 is visiting Oslo...

Despite the awful weather, I went to see the Celebrity Eclipse today. She departed Oslo at 14:00, just when the rain started to come down. Good thing that I have weather sealed equipment, still that doesn't protect the len's front element from drops of water, which are visible in some of the shots...

First, fisheye is fun:

She certainly doesn't have a good looking stern:

It's always interesting how these behemoths dwarfs the fortresses in the background:

Most of the shots from this angle were ruined by raindrops on the lens' frontal element, this was the least ruined:


Managed to frame it with as few drops as possible, and crop away most of them here:

There are fences here as well, though they are not that high/substantial, they are closed with access control whenever a ship is present, and opened as soon as the ship is clear of the quay... If you look carefully, you can see them in #84/1 and 3. During the departure, I usually stand on a floating wharf (slightly unstable when it's windy or when a boat passes, so holding the camera steady can be a challenge) on the other side of the harbor that's fairly close to the ship's lane, so no fence there...

Reading the figures, length and so on, is one thing –but it is seeing your photos of such a gigantic ship as this moored at a quay familiar to me that really makes me gulp! Phew!!!! But photo-wise, #84/3, highlighting the stern, is a great view of her. The silly thought came into my head was that it would be just the thing for the cruise passengers to personalise their postcards, as I imagined being able to click on and drag and drop that X of Celebrity X Cruises onto ones room balcony!!!!!

Ummm not many passengers are out on deck or even their own balconies to see her leave…but your #85/2 is by far the most ship-flattering view, and that officer on the bridge wing just completes it.

Yes, the decks of these ships are normally brimmed full of people during departure or arrival into Oslo, see one of my pictures of the Artania arriving in Oslo last year for reference:


Yesterday the weather was horrible though (little bit windy and some rain), so that was most likely the reason for people preferring to stay inside...

Today was the big one... RMS Queen Mary 2 in Oslo. I have to say I'm equally struck by her beauty every time:

Lots of strong ropes holding her to the quay, she's even taking up Vippetangen in addition to Søndre Akershuskai:

Think it went well... Somewhat unexpected case assignment, but I think I got it sorted out fine...

There will be a a few days until my next set of cruise ship pictures will show up, 17th of May this week, and I'm working this weekend. So no more before next week...
