I am feeling so very happy for our Captain. He will indeed feel he is in paradise come tomorrow morning. To see a ship christened knowing you will be her first master, wow, that will feel so good!

    Thanks for the updates Svein!

Oh Svein, I feel I’m in paradise too. This is absolutely MARVELLOUS knowing the actual time of the ceremony, so we can savour the moment.
I’ve even decided that I’ll open the bottle of champagne that D had ready in case “his man” clinched the Formula 1 championship this weekend . . . .but stuff that for an excuse when I’m sparkling with happiness and overflowing with pride for OUR CAPTAIN.

This is the best reason for celebration I can possibly imagine.

I was just thinking that, Thijs! Like the champagne idea, Lady C! I have a little split in the 'fridge! Wonder if 0558 is too early for conventional champagne drinking???? lol
    Congratulations Jan-Olav!!!
(Oh, and Dane, if you should ever decide to christen the CVYacht, I am available for Godmother duties, if your bride isn't interested......
    Cheers!!

Ønsker deg og ditt mannskap en sikker ferd på alle hav!!
Skål, Jan-Olav....., og ha en riktig god tur hjem!!

As the ceremony most likely is over, I can tell you that the "Korsfjord" godmother was the wife of the ex. shipyard electrician, leader of Solidarity, 1983 Nobel Peace Prize winner and Polish President Lech Walesa....

Little did Lech Walesa think back in the 80's, when he first rose to prominence in world news and long before he became President in the 90's, that his wife would one day be launching ships. We hear little of him now, except earlier this year when the Polish president was killed in the air crash. I don't think he holds any office now, certainly not any prominent one. But it was a fitting choice.

    Forwarded from Gdansk:-

    So proud and happy….
The Christening actually took place at 13:00 due to some delays (so I was a little early with my champagne this morning!) …and the ceremony dinner is at 20:00 local Gdansk time for those of you who like the idea of virtually eating together so to speak.

Pictures from the christening ceremony of our captains "Korsfjord" starting to come in.
This is a picture from the Ålesund-based newspaper Sunnmørsposten. of Danuta Walesa just about to cut the rope to the champagne bottle with an axe

Here's how "Korsfjord" looked just before the ceremony

EDIT: The two norwegian ladies standing by our captain on the picture are the godmothers of the other two ferries, "Storfjord" and "Hjørundfjord".

    Question:
Those golden stripes on the two captains sleves, what's the difference between the four we are used to and the four including one thick on Jan-Olavs sleve...?
Have seen such stripes once before, on the captain of the "Allure of the Seas".
    (Just wonder, you know....)

I think this is something from Cruise Ships, where there are one "actual" Captain (the Master) and a Vice Captain/Staff Captain. What is the significance, if any, on a ferry I don't know.
There may be somebody here that can clarify?

I wondered that, too. Just been foraging on Google and found myself led to our own archive at the following link.
    http://captainsvoyage.7.forumer.com/...hp?p=8515#8515

That takes you to page 9 and there is a subsequent discussion on page 10. A poster on p.10 said that the one on the pilot's own left was the Captain and the other chap the Staff Captain. Don't know whether it helps.

PS. Tell you who might know - J.O. ! Ask him when you next speak, Sterkoder.

    Thought so too. Thank you!!
I know capt. Maalen also had those 3 + 1 broad, so I guess it's pretty sure who's in charge on board that ferry

I don't think ferries have Staff Captains. These two would be equals, but on opposite shifts, once the ferry gets into service. Extra wide stripe will have to go I'm afraid.
