    Default Disney Cruise Lines.

    Disney Cruise Lines.

On our old home, we had three threads with information on Disney Cruise Line:

Disney Cruise Lines orders new buildings: http://captainsvoyage.7.forumer.com/...ghlight=disney

    Disney ships 3 and 4: http://captainsvoyage.7.forumer.com/...ghlight=disney

Disney Wonder - GA Plans: http://captainsvoyage.7.forumer.com/...ghlight=disney

Bridge of the Disney ships: http://captainsvoyage.7.forumer.com/...ghlight=disney

With a unified front, we continue in this simple thread, sharing images and stories concerning the Disney Cruise Line ships.

I open the thread with an image of Disney Wonder taken at Nassau, Bahamas, on December 20th 2004:

I love that design. It also looks like the ships will have a promenade deck, instead of just lifeboats there as on the Solstice. No promenade deck isn't a good thing in my opinion..

    Disney names its newbuilds

    Disney Dream
and Disney Fantasy are the names chosen for Disney Cruise Line’s newbuilds, coming in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

The names were announced today at the annual meeting of shareholders in The Walt Disney Co.

‘The names are very telling of our brand and are part of our history,’ said Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line and New Vacation Operations. ‘Disney is known for making dreams come true, and for creating worlds of fantasy that go beyond the imagination.’

Steel cutting for the 128,000gt ships began last week at Meyer Werft.

Scary ride in a tube on the new Disney ships:

Am I the only one, but are cruise ships starting to turn really "full-resort-at-sea"?

Ships???? What ships? This start to look like Tivoli-goes-to-sea.
Why bother to go to sea at all, if you can get the real thing at various places ashore?

The idea of a Blip probably went out when the one they tried at "LV of the Seas" got lost on trial. Next thing you know we'll see a full size "London Eye" on one of these floating contraptions. What could beat that?

Some of the public spaces of the new Disney Dream looks very attractive and very beautiful, almost on a grand scale as seen on the old ocean liners.

This appears to become a very handsome and beautiful new vessel.

A video on her website shows appetizers of the new ship under construction:

I have to see that i agree. This is the first time i have really looked at these ships in detail, and i must admit i am more than a little impressed. These ships have style to them, the exterior appearance is fantastic for a modern cruise ship. These ships just go to show that it is more than possible to build something new that actually looks right. The twin uptakes look great, and the bow is a pleasure to look at. The interior spaces look fantastic also, ok, they are obviously very family orientated, but it just goes to show you can build style into these new vessels. Now if they were to build one of these without such a big child's theme to it, i can safely say i would love to travel on it.

Modern ships with deck after deck of balconies tend to look like boring boxes. The Disney design shows that you can work with the cards delt.

I like how the balconies are divided into horizontal blocks. It really puts scale back into the ship. Her side is not covered with 500 balconies. Instead she has 50 horizontal "cells".

Having the balconies recessed with the life boat deck and the top deck wider adds some interest and prevents her from having broad flat sides.

I would like to see the superstructure start further aft from the bow and have more stagger but economics rule and demand a large volume.

Today I come with brand new photos of the Meyer Shipyard (Meyer Werft) in Papenburg and her ship "Disney Dream". Together with 25 colleagues, I had the opportunity to see the ship from a quite different perspective. We could visit directly the production and had the Disney Dream close before us. Furthermore, at the University of Applied Sciences in Leer we could visit the ship simulator (nautical studies).
