Views in all directions for the guests aboard Oriana, and doesn’t the funnel look golden and sleek in the sunshine.

Yet more Honningsvåg arrivals - 1st July 2011, Mein Schiff 2 in the village. I think that somewhere under that paint job there's a rather pretty boat.
Unusually for a boat of this size, she lay at anchor during her stay. I assume something to do with saving mooring charges?
With impressive German efficiency, the first shuttle boat brought over the team that clearly labelled the route from the boats to the buses (chalked on the pavement), gave the bus drivers their instructions, and set up the sterile bubble within which the ship’s customers travel. 10 minutes before the hour the queues were forming for the ship's boats, and exactly at the prescribed time the transfer to the waiting buses started.
Late at night, with the midnight sun at its height, she gently turned on the berth and cruised away in the stunning sunlight and stillness of late evening in Finnmark.
Two posts in one night - I need to stop this, I think I'm getting addicted.
4th July 2011, Honningsvåg Kai Nord, Crown Princess.
I'm sorry, maybe it's just me, but I'm struggling to see the beauty in this one - maybe it just beats my photographic and Photoshop expertise.
Even with a full-on arty hi-contrast version of the raw file, I still can't get that front to look pretty - the sort of face that only a mother can love?
It must be fantastic to have such a clear, uninterrupted view from the balconies I suppose.
I went around the back (sorry, the stern) to see if it looked better from there - and to be fair it does, a bit - although it's still ever so BIG!!!
Convinced myself that it was me - it is a truly magnificent bit of engineering, even it looks a little odd to my eye. But I really, really didn't get the need for some rather odd-looking "Vikings" greeting passengers leaving the ship for a photo opportunity.
Maybe one of my CV friends can put me right on this one?
Yes Gaelsail - interesting point - some of them look happy enough, others took a run up to escape the Vikings!!
Must depend what people are looking for from a holiday. Watching the ships come in did really show the difference between the different cruise lines and the passengers they attract, I'm sure that the vast majority of them had a fantastic holiday and told all their friends about how wonderful the ships they were on were, and how beautiful Norway was when they got home. That's got to be all that matters hasn't it?
There are an awful lot of people that think that driving from southern England to Northern Norway for a fortnight of every type of weather, plenty of Hurtigruter, dozens of Cruise Ships and uninterrupted sunlight every couple of years isn't necessarily their idea of a good holiday - but I love it, so I'm not in a position to comment - each to their own!!
Another H'våg visitor from this summer. Vistamar. Looking a little battered from this angle.

This is not exactly "breaking news". But anyway........ Here are a few mobile-phone shots, of two really huge cruiseships visiting Kristiansand August 2011, during my summer-holiday
QUEEN MARY 2

And 3 days later QUEEN ELIZABETH appeard in Kristiansand.
The brand new Theatre / Opera-house / Concert-hall "KILDEN" to the left, looks very small side by side with this huuuuge cruise-ship

Gosh but the Queens look a lot better than Vistamar does in my post #406!!
I'm also catching up with the 2011 cruise arrivals - more to post over the coming days and weeks.
A couple more - Honningsvåg, June / July 2011.
