Default RMS Queen Mary 2 (or just QM2)... the modern real liner?

    I continue here this topic : http://captainsvoyage.7.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=859

Now , with the " lost " of they last Liners and many little Ships they next 2 years !
    I can say : it's " realy " , the End of a Era !!!

With the new " Monsters of they Seas " , the outside of these new Cruise Ships are completily diferent with they Liners from the 60's & 70's !!!

So , i came to this result Captain Storli :

" QUEEN MARY 2 is perhaps now the last and only liner "

I think she's definitely a real liner, they did such an awesome job designing her. By modern standards she is really, really beautiful. Of course nowhere as beautiful as the old ocean liners, but for a modern passenger ship she's very good looking. I really love her bow, but her stern is less beautiful I think.

    Just look at her:

    a real liner no doubt!

It's great they actually built a liner again, instead of just boxy cruise ships. She's a legend...she's just great and she'd be the first (modern) ship I'd take a cruise on if I had the chance. It's such a shame the Queen Victoria is just another boxy vista, and not a unique liner like QM2

Default QM 2 Interiors Part 1 of 4

When I sailed on QM2 in February 2006, I purchased some postcard photos which included 2 exterior and 13 interior images. I have scanned them and would like to share them here for those who have not had the pleasure of sailing on her.

I'm starting to get the itch to go on another cruise. Every year QM2 seems to move up on my list of ships to try.

Looking forward to see the QM2 twice this season
It's one of the best looking ships (bulit after 2000)

I so wish she could pass by Rørvik some day, but I know she is way to tall to pass under our bridge.

BTW, does anyone know how high she actually is (waterline - top of mast)?

And, what is the sailng height of your bridge in Bergen Photoman?

Thanks, PeaSea8ch for the photos (love the login name, too!!)

Mr. Photoman- I'm glad you like the looks of her. I've slept on it before I commented, because I'm trying to like her...but... I don't know.

Like her stern..but her bow just doesn't seem to match...it's like an English toy spaniel, with the nose laid back...or like she had a tussle with a too-short overpass (flyover) and the overpass won.

And you know how I like tucked-in lifeboats.....

Mr. Photoman--I LOVE the last pic- with the sailboat with the red white and blue spinnaker...that little pop of color really brings the red out and brightens the whole picture!!
    Cheers!!

Cunard's own shipfacts state her total height (keel to funnel) as being 72m and her draft as being 10m so the conclusion is that her airdraft is 62m?

    That can be correct!
    The bridges airdraft is 63m
The waterlevel was a bit below normal on this pic (ebb-tide), so maybe a couple of metres clearance here?

Waow.. that looks close, and I can see many people showed up on the bridge to see the ship passing under.

The Queen Mary 2 in Norwegian waters 2010 will be a maiden call in Tromsø and Honningsvåg
QM2 will also visit Bergen 3 times in 2010 so the next year seems already great

I wonder why the crewmen are up there?, in communication with the Captain/Pilot reassuring them that they have got there maths right?, or up there because it seems like a cool place to be with a camera?

Whatever the reason, i wonder how close it looked to them as she made her approach?

If I had the chance... I would be up there with a camera.

I assume by the time you notice that the ship will not fit, it is too late to stop.

If given the chance i would also be up there with my camera, BUT, i think i would also be standing very close to the ladder that goes down - just in case of any miscalculation with the tide height!

Maybe the Captain and or the Pilot saw the following video (click on the URL below) and just wanted to make certain everything would be alright:
