Oh look, yet another pilot boat from my summer cruise. This transfer was near the end of our trip through the Bosporous and not long before we stared docking maneuvers in Istanbul. I wonder if they were passing documentation for all the tourists about to be dumped ashore.

What is the purpose of a pilot base ship? I know what it is used for, but why would you have a base ship instead of basing onshore? Is the harbor so busy/expensive that land is not available for a base?

The Ship was positioned in the River Weser far away from any Harbour. Actually the ship is layd up since she was replaced by the SWATH Ship Weser.

Looking through this topic, I don't think the unusual "ORC" pilot cutter hull form has been mentioned before.

The image is taken from this article (dated January 2008, so several years old now), in which it is mentioned that "The pilots of six French ports are now using ORC boats and this year the Norwegian pilots at Hammerfest took delivery of an ORC 140".

I wonder, does anyone know of any reports on how these ORC boats are regarded by the people who actually use them?

Pilot vessel "LOS 120" leaving for a new mission via Nordsundet outlet in Kristiansund. The keel stream in which the pilot boat sail belongs to the HSC "Mørejarl" just in front of her

This image could fit both the HSC and this pilot vessel thread, so here it is, "LOS 120" following "Mørejarl"

As I was on the sundeck of car ferry "Veøy" returning from a short fjord cruise, we had the pilot boat "LOS 120" catching up with us, also returning to port.

A small offering from Spurn Point's two pilot boat launches, here's one of them the Humber Venus.
