    Re: Unknown Vessel, anyone know?

I am almost certain you have found her identity Ombugge. Very good job. I was beginning to give up hope on finding out her identity. There were two things that puzzled me when studying the google earth image, her transom and her short length. Both of those things did not fit with the type of vessel i thought she was - classic 1950's/60's cruise ship. She was not long enough, and she did not have the classic rounded stern. Now i can see why! So obvious now, but i totally overlooked the ferry clues.

Like i say, i am convinced you are spot on, the only niggle i have is that i cannot find her overall length recorded anywhere, not that i have any doubts, i just like to cross reference things!

Great work Ombugge, i am very pleased to know her identity and her history. Hard to put into words, but it gives that simple google earth image a lot of meaning.

          Wonderful detective work you all!

I had no idea she, the Sunward, had already been broken up, that totally blew my mind right now.

Does anyone know the story of the real ship, used in the movie SS Martha?

A fantastic movie... imagine how fun it would be to re-shoot this whole movie again today, with for example Nordstjernen after her retirement.

Not bad...it took almost a year to figure this out. The ship used as SS Martha was S/S ASLAUG. I can't read the article but it can be found at...

Well, but preferrably not scrapping good Nordstjernen immediately after shooting the movie, as they did with Aslaug / Margarita...

Yes, I agree... re-shooting the film, but everything except from the scrapping-part!

It could be the Normandie, not really sure... How about Paris (didn't she sink too?)
