    Veteran vessel Hansteen of Trondhjem

The world's oldest restored sail-steamer and veteran vessel Hansteen was supposed to sail from Trondheim this week on a cruise along the Trøndelag and Helgeland coastline but is held back in her home port by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate.

In order to get their sailing permission back they will have to wait for the completion of the installation of a rescue boat.

A more recent image of Hansteen at her new location:

On June 1st, there was an interesting sight here... Hansteen was loading COAL, and my dear Korsfjord loaded LNG as fuel right behind... talking about contrasts!

While Hansteen had crew members carrying on board her fuel, coal, the Korsfjord was bunkering LNG as her fuel right behind...

I'm going to start posting my photos of SDS Hansteen from the totally spontaneous and absolutely amazing trip I made to Trondheim last week.

There are a lot of them - but there is also a lot of interest in the ship! So I think I’ll post a selection here on the forum, but also put extra ones on Flickr too. Unlike my usual practice I'll not reduce the size. When I have eventually got them all on Flickr, I will also have a go at putting them in an 'album'. I guess it should then be possible for not only you, Jan Olav, to download any you want, but also have a link for you to give to others.

As Jan-Olav has explained in his Blog (see link in previous post), Hansteen would be making a 3-day cruise trip. But the first photos I'm starting to sort out are from what I think of as "Day 0" - August 2nd 2018, the day prior to the cruise, when the ship relocated in Trondheim from Fosenkaia to Brattøra.

I should explain that our Captain had absolutely no idea that I was going to be in Trondheim!
Yes, it really was that spontaneous!

Having seen on MarineTraffic that Harsteen was moored at Fosenkaia, I had sussed out that she would have to move to the starting location for the cruise the day before it commenced. So, after going to the Central Railway Station to check train times and get the tickets I'd need to 'stalk' Hansteen the following day, I walked to the nearby quay, and there was the ship - a hive of activity! For me it seemed the ultimate magic moment, but there would be more in the subsequent days!

The Trondheim harbour guys have arrived, essential for this move to Brattøra, and there is much to discuss!

It was at this point that it started to rain a little, and I took the opportunity to take some refreshment at Kystlaget Trondhjem, sitting out under the awning while keeping an eye on activity aboard Hansteen.

Then that expectant feeling that the moment had arrived ...SDS Hansteen was about to depart!
