    SS Rotterdam

Seems like we did not continue this old thread from our old board:

    http://captainsvoyage.7.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=96

Latest update now sees her being attached quite recently to her fixed moorings and with all lifeboats back u in the new davits.

Has the top 9 feet of her mast (as seen in the 7th pic at http://www.maritimematters.com/shipnewspics2006.html ) been re-installed?

I've got a friend who lives in The Hague who worked onboard one of HAL's ships in the 60's. He's going to see her when she opens up.
sigpicI will never forget the lovely grand SS NORWAY.
          Past Cruises on her: August 22, 1992. June 4, 1994, April 7, 2002.
Nearly had our fourth cruise, it was set for November 7, 2003...
the boiler room disaster of May 4, 2003 took her out of service.
We ended up on the NORWEGIAN WIND, not the same as the SS NORWAY

Stunning images.... and I didn't even notice them before now!

I would like to thank you so very much for adding them to the ship's thread! Thank you!

According to the latest I heard, she was due to open today, September 5th 2009. Are there any changes to that or is this in fact "the day"?

Wonderful photo's of her. I do wonder though, if they will be re-fitting her lifeboats to her? I think she would look much better with them.

                      pacarang:
the planning was to open this day,
because today are there in Rotterdam the worldportdays.
in the whole (wel a great part of it)port thers are things to do ,what is relatet
                      with the maritime sector.
the navy give shows, you can go into the ships, there a divingdemo's,
you can (after buying a ticket) step on board on the PRIDE OF ROTTERDAM of HULL p&o ferry's in europoort and sail in to rotterdam where's he turn around
(at the hal quay) and go back to europoort where they load her for the trip to hull this evening. (to and back is about 70km)

so with opening today of the ss ROTTERDAM the thougt a very nice thing to addet to the portdays.

wel now we know that the havend manich that time ,so they hope now for november, but i havend hear or read something else at this moment.

                      Saintsfcfan:
i thougt that they have already re-fittet her with life boats,
i don't now if the all came back,if i remember me correctly i have heard that the original lifeboats are replacet, but i am not sure about that.

i can't make pictures of it,i can hardly come there with my truck and the place's where i can see her i can't stop there and created a roadbloc.

but i shal try to make pictures,i often do that, drive and making pictures

after posting of this i was gooing to the site of ss ROTTERDAM ans i see this pictues, saintstcfan.

go to photopage then to rotterdam januaru/february 2009

and ther you see her lifeboats and that she is of the quay now.

                      http://www.ssrotterdam.net/

so your question is being anwsert

last friday in the daily newspaper a whole page of the ROTTERDAM incl. some pictures.
i will try to translate it, but over several days (not a 9 to 5 job)

                              outline of costs.

lost on ss ROTTERDAM already 74 million euro.

the ROTTERDAM is till now mostly in the news for dooing the high cost of renovation.

housing cooperation "woonbron" has put 200 million euro in the ship,
that amount was a lot higher then thougt.
because to her valuation she is rekon that she is 126 million worth.so that the cooperation has a lost of 74 million.
the minister, that has housing and living in his hands, said that the owner of the cooperation has to look for a buyer.

but the owner said:we are not looking for a buyer jet.
the highest priorety in now to make the ship ready.
                              that is logical.
it is easyer then to sell it when its ready, then when the job ain't done.
then we can tell the buyer how everything works on the ship

                              next time more.
                              regards thijs

may the words not right or in a incorrect order ,feel free to correct it
