What is a respectable forum covering passenger ships without an own thread for the Titanic? As far as I can see, we have no opened this thread yet here on our new location, so it is with no further delays I present the Titanic-thread.

You may wish to take a look at these threads on our old board as well:

Surprisingly, there is almost no mention of the fact the Titanic had a largeish fire amidships when she left Belfast and it lasted all the way to her eventual demise which did not have much to do with the iceberg collision; she probably would never had made it to the USA as her central bulkheads were severely weakened by the fire all the way across the Atlantic. Apparently, according to what I have read, the real truth why she sank was kept hidden from the papers. The boss of the White Star Line made sure it would never be made public that a brand new, huge ship, on fire in the middle bulkheads, could sink like a stone, with or without the iceberg's assistance.

What do you all think about this TITANIC copy being built in China: Titanic replica (Sichuan, China)

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titani...Sichuan,_China)

I wonder if this is really a serious project as I have little about it in various media... apparently, they have a Facebook page but since I'm no longer using FB, I don't know what they share there.

If this is in fact something really authentic, I might as well have to go to China some day... to Sichuan.

Yes, you may be very right about the amount of table-spoon with Hollywood in that alternative ending. The one-man-saves-the-whole-world-feeling.

You asked for an opinion, and I did not like the alternate ending. A few tablespoones too much Hollywood in that recipe. But that's me ;-)

Further to my last post, I would like to hear what you all think about this alternative ending of the movie?

For me, I actually like this ending a little bit more than the actual ending they chose to go with. We get to see a more sentimental and softer side of the expedition leader, as well as a greater understanding of Rose.

I thought the wreck of the Titanic had been all mapped out several times in the past, but obviously, there is still more mapping to do.

The truly sad thing is that the wreck is about to disappear for good, and with it, all those small and valuable things (not monetary value, but historical value), all gone forever.

    GUYS...

    LADIES....

    GENTLEMEN.....

I know most of you have seen a boatload (pun intended) of documentaries about the TITANIC up through your times, but this is one that stands out for me.

There is very little narration, except from a few comments throughout the film.... the sounds are simulated sounds from the actual night, and thankfully, they did NOT add the over-used Titanic soundtrack to any part of it! Thank heavens for that.

The simplicity of this film is genious and I have actually watched it two times already in full (no fast forward!)....

This is the Titanic's last 2 hours 40 minutes on the surface of the North Atlantic minute by minute .... in real time!

It seems to happen almost unoticable at first, but during the last 15-20 minutes, the whole thing goes terribly scarier.

    Well worth the time!

A Look at the Titanic Artifacts Going to Auction This Week

The items come from the so-called “Money Boat,” whose passengers were accused of bribing crew members not to save others.
