Really looking forward to this, to. Will be glued to the computerscreen, exploring the ship.

          102 years today.

Here's a question it seems hard to answer: At what GMT-time did Titanic struck the iceberg?

Titanic HG is having a live podcast right now, and they just said Titanic struck right now, at 4:40 am norwegian time. There's so many different satements around, so who knows whats correct. Difficult to say, 102 years after. But these guys are most likely right

You are not the only one that is asking this question: http://awesometalks.wordpress.com/20...t-the-iceberg/

To make it even more complicated; ships time was often set to "True time" at the estimated location for next noon position. i.e. the suns meridian passage would be at 12 Noon every day. To make it fair to watch keepers, time were changed in three increments, once per watch.
Since the Titanic struck the iceberg at 1140 PM (Ships time) this would have been just before the second time change of the night.

I don't know it this was the way it was done on a passenger ship, but it certainly was on cargo ships. If they changed according to time zones, the time change would normally have been at midnight and not yet done on that night.

True, ombugge. I've read the same. And there's also the question of summertime, which didnt excist at that time.

That was a really nice link though. It sums up all the different theories.

I wonder if flight MH 370 will get the same treatment in a few years' time?

Apparently there will be two Titanic-replicas by 2016.

Now a group of Chinese entrepreneurs says that they will build a full-scale replica of the Titanic that will be docked on the island of Tinian in the Pacific, and only serve as a hotell ship.
The luxury ship will however be named Ocean View Resort, and not Titanic II.

So, we were told Ballard was testing equipment for the US Navy to help find lost ships. And being a much larger target, he decided looking for Titanic was best to test this equipment. It was fantastic when he found her, but now we have new information on the chain of events.

"According to newly declassified information, the Navy sent Commander (Dr.) Robert Ballard, the oceanographer credited with locating the wreck of RMS Titanic, on a secret mission to map and collect visual data on both Thresher and Scorpion wrecks.[12] The Navy used Ballard's search for Titanic as a screen to hide the mission. Ballard approached the Navy in 1982 for funding to find Titanic with his new deep-diving robot submersible. The Navy saw the opportunity and granted him the money on the condition he first inspect the two submarine wrecks. Ballard's robotic survey discovered that Thresher had sunk so deep that it imploded, turning into thousands of pieces. The only recoverable piece was a foot of marled pipe.[13] His 1985 search for Scorpion revealed such a large debris field that it looked "as though it had been put through a shredding machine." Once the two wrecks had been visited, and the radioactive threat from both was established as small, Ballard was able to search for Titanic. Due to dwindling funds, he had just 12 days to do so, but he used the same debris-field search techniques he had used for the two subs, which worked, and Titanic was found."

Thirty years ago today, ocean explorer Robert Ballard came across the find of a lifetime: The twisted wreckage of the Titanic, resting over 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) below the surface.

                        GUYS...

                        LADIES....

                        GENTLEMEN.....

I know most of you have seen a boatload (pun intended) of documentaries about the TITANIC up through your times, but this is one that stands out for me.

There is very little narration, except from a few comments throughout the film.... the sounds are simulated sounds from the actual night, and thankfully, they did NOT add the over-used Titanic soundtrack to any part of it! Thank heavens for that.

The simplicity of this film is genious and I have actually watched it two times already in full (no fast forward!)....

This is the Titanic's last 2 hours 40 minutes on the surface of the North Atlantic minute by minute .... in real time!

It seems to happen almost unoticable at first, but during the last 15-20 minutes, the whole thing goes terribly scarier.

                        Well worth the time!
