Re: RMS Titanic of the White Star Line

Generally i like the idea of offering the old transatlantic cruise feeling.
But it is the question, if it just had to be the Titanic as inspiring example.
In my opinion also the time schedule is too ambitious for such a complicated project. Further I don't think, that the idea of three classes nowadays will work fine. Do they really believe, people today accept the third class standard of 1912?? The old titanic had space for 2.400 passengers, 1.100 of them in third class living in common rooms and 2,4 and 6 bed berths. They were only allowed to have access on very limited deck space. So most the space was reservated and planned for 1.300 passengers. How shall a replica carry 2.600 passengers then today?
I also don't like the idea of the clothing thing. Could be nice for a special evening event, but for the whole journey?
It is a macabre scenery, isn't it? They could drive it to a peak, if they integrate some submarine features in the ship, so they can simulate a "real sinking", extra fee could be paid for a "realistic lifeboat excursion".

Re: RMS Titanic of the White Star Line

So, they are not planning a true replica of the Titanic, but a vessel with similarities to the original in the external and above water look.

She will be of full welded steel construction, wider than the original and with an improved under water hull for better stability, speed and fuel economy.
Propulsion will be Diesel/Electric , using Azipull pods as main propulsors and Bow Thrusters for better maneuverability.

The idea of having an extra deck where the actual lifeboats will be placed is sound.

The idea of having a "Bridge" looking like the original in front of the actual Bridge, with modern navigation instruments and controls does not sound logical and may not be accepted by the regulatory bodies. (Why?? Who will be seeing this feature and when?
I cannot see it being allowed for flocks of passengers admiring the replica Engine Telegraphs and Steering Wheel, blocking the sight from the actual Bridge while the vessel is under way.

The question of how they are going to accommodate 2600 Pax in modern comfort when the original vessel carried 2400 in three classes, incl. in Dorms and 4 or 6 bunk cabins is a valid question. The vessel is wider, but same length. The extra deck is going to house Public rooms and a Casino. Maybe they will try to sell cheap tickets in "Dorm Class"??

As for the period dress, I got the impression that that was for her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, not for every trip?

Who will man the vessel?? British Master and officers OK, but I would assume that the rest would be mainly Asians, like all other Cruise ships??

One more thing that is not clear to me is if it is intended to use this ship only on Trans-Atlantic crossing, even in the winter, or is it intended to do more "normal" cruises, incl World Around Cruises?

I don't know how long a ship like this will hold the attention of the potential customers, but I suspect that she would have to compete on even terms with the Queens and other Cruise ships eventually.

Yeap.... I don't know if Captain of Titanic (even with the 2) would be good or bad for the CV.... must think some more before I accept.

Not the Titanic, but her sister Britannic - as she lies there today:
