um.. I never would have thought someone dared to compete with James Cameron's movie, and certainly not now already, in 2012 with Titanic in 3D and all?

A few coins are available from the Royal Canadian Mint to commemorate the Titanic.

In august 2010 I visited an old, small and very cozy town in Germany. LAUENBURG /Elbe. (Yes, hometown of a woman I was in love with )

In a window in the main street of the old part of the town I saw THIS :

(Just a note for those who are interested: The mirror-reflection of my jeans has indeed nothing to do with "TITANIC" )

I can see 'likeness' in this new movie compared to James Camerons, but I also see differences.
Where Camerons movie more or less was a love story between two people who happens to be on board "Titanic", it seems like this new movie could be a little more about the known and actual people on board that night...., as it seems this movie is based on the real happening, also among the passengers on board..? I mean based on what we know from documents, books, early vitness statements and so on...?
In that light, this could be a just as good movie as Camerons, but as that one is THE Titanic-movie for me..., I might not see this new one with fresh eyes.

                      Hello everybody

Since I have been focused on getting my D3 certificate, I have not been as active on the forum recently. Of course I have been reading , but now I believe it's time to post something again.

Found this "twitter" from Titanic's last journey, I would think thats what it would have looked like if the ship was to be launched today :

Can anyone tell me what the purpose of the "Docking Bridge" is? I always believed the wheel and machine telegraph on the stern was a kind of emergency steering, but today I learned that this is called "docking bridge".

Because of the name it would be logical to assume that it would been used during docking, but they wouldn't have any visibility forward.

I wouldn't pay much attention to these so called Twits. It is obviously rubbish and made up by anybody without any maritime knowledge.
Their terminology looks like it comes from watching Hollywood movies, or reading Donald Duck.

PS> The Titanic had two reciprocal Steam Engines and two Steam Turbines. I doubt that the passengers had access to the telegraphs.
Someone may suddenly decided to put the telegraph for the centre propeller to full astern to see what happened, not knowing that turbines cannot be reversed.
I think there would have been enough confusion in the engine rooms when the order to stop engines came on the telegraph in the middle of the ocean. Normally an hours warning was needed to do ANY maneouvres when the ship was in open sea.

Yes i have noticed that the maritime knowledge is missing, but i found it kind of fun anyway But the question about the "docking bridge" still stands. I didnt learn about this from the "tweets", but from a person who is drawing the Titanic in 3D
