    "Gamle Helgeland" ex "Lofothav" "Helgeland

I am surprised to see that Joakim A havent already made a thread about the "Gamle Helgeland".
Well, anyway, here are some pictures of this old lady.
I can provide some ship info, but I think Joakim A should correct me.
She was built in 1955 and was served in "Trænruta" and "Mosjøruta"(first one is Sandnessjøen to Træna with several stops on the way, and the other one I believe is from Sandnessjøen to Mosjøen). In 1977 the HSC "Træna" replaced "Helgeland" and she was sold. New name was "Lofothav" and she was used as a "Bruksvakt".
I'm not sure when she was bought back to Sandnessjøen and what was done , but she got the old Helgelandske colours and flag.

It indeed surprised me too, that there wasn`t a thread of Gamle Helgeland here on CVF already.
    (Shame on you, Joakim )

I have had the pleasure to follow the progress on Gamle Helgeland on her active facebook-site. And also got several e-mails through this facebook-site.

A beautiful old vessel she is. Wonderful that she is been taken care of.

I hope we now will have a lot of images of her in this new thread. Thank you Kristian, for giving this vessel a life here on CVF

(And I have now finally solved the nick-name confution. "The Sea-Otter" is perfect.)

Great new thread: can't wait to see much more from and about this vessel in the future!

Two photos of 'Helgeland' at Sandnessjøen - one taken when southbound from Svalbard to Bergen on 'Harald Jarl' in early August 1974, the other when southbound from Hammerfest to Bodø on 'Finnmarken' in mid July 1975. 'Vefsen' was also there in 1974 (third photo). Poor quality exposure - i was still getting used to my secondhand Yashica, which served me faithfully until March 2007, failing (the wind-on for the film jammed) only a couple of hours after I had purchased a cheap digital. Mind you, the digital is fantastic - and costs virtually nothing to use . . .

Try again with the 1974 view of 'Helgeland' - 'Stavenes' holidaying in North Wales in 1977 crept in by mistake!

Great pictures Mike! Sandnessjøen has changed a bit since the 70's. "Helgeland" was replaced by HSC "Træna" a few years after those pictures were taken.

                  Hello Kristian,

Thank you for the new updates on her look.

Great seeing her still in relatively good shape.

                    Just a simple addition.

When she came to Trondheim for a short stop in August last year, I was on duty. Sadly, this is the only image I got of her. And I have to admit how surprised I was: she was so TINY!

Yes, if you look at all the other pictures: If you look at her lying on a quai, you are looking DOWN on her. I experienced the same seeing her in Sandnessjoen.
But you gave us the first picture of her "in the move". So thank you very much!

                          Thank you very much Ralf.

Yes, you are making a good point about her size. I guess I just n ever gave it a thought before. I had seen her alongside the dock at Helgeland, but never thought about how small she actually was.

The image might not be the best I have produced, but it was taken in the middle of the night. Naturally, she had to sail by Flakk in the middle of a 6 hour rest between two 14-hour work days. It's just my sort of luck.
