    S/S Mariefred

A nice documentary of the everyday life onboard S/S Mariefred and Captain Insulander. Should be available for viewing from all over the world.

That was a beautiful video in it's whole length.... the true steamboats of the Swedish archipelago.

I really have to make an effort to experience one of those boats some day this summer, perhaps on my next visit to Stockholm.

Wonderful to hear about the story of the captain, which actually wanted to work on cargo ships but ended up on a passenger ship. He is such a wonderful character, and of the old school proud of his profession and his uniform. From my own experience, that is something I do not see to much of today. We have become slaves of an employer, and if you like your uniform, you are often seen as "dandy", "attention seeking" or even "have a desire to promote yourself".

Life has become far more complicated now.

Yes, he's such a great storyteller too. I once attended a lecture he held about the S/S Mariefred and steamboats in general. Pure fun for 2-3 hours.
S/S Mariefred is a nice steamer, but my all time favorite is S/S Storskär.
