  • M/F Bilfergen

This one has featured several places on CVF but doesn't have its own thread anywhere, as far as I can find.
To correct that, here is a picture of this well restored vessel in winter lay-up in Aalesund:

    Here is her history:

She has been restored to her status before 1954.

The text that accompany the video say she's mooring, but after listening to the sweet sound for a while, I started to get more and more "irritated" over 'What in the world are they trying to do..., where are they going...., WHY CAN'T THEY JUST DOCK!!!!???'

It's a big step in evolution between Bilfergen and Korsfjord, both MRF - vessels...

Riksantikvaren = The Directorate for Cultural Heritage

"freder" .... the old car ferry "Bilfergen" = schedules the old car ferry "Bilfergen" as a historical monument.

              I think.

How'bout some details from the BILFERGEN from one of my trips to Ålesund during the summer of 2013?
Well, I'm not going to wait for any answer, so here they are:

And of cource she was not covered then....

I love the "Bilfergen in two seasons" duo report, you two, and that this is a ship that looks so cared for.

Bilfergen will stay in Aalesund: http://www.smp.no/nyheter/alesundogo...cle9204643.ece
That is if the money to maintain and operate her can be found.

I certainly hope and pray for the future of this cute tiny vessel.... may they find sponsorship in the years ahead to keep them alive and afloat.

Bilfergen has been unwrapped, on the slipway for a bit of maintenance and are prepared for the 2016 season:

In fact she is already active:

                              Steaming along Borgundfjorden.
