    Theaterboat MS "INNVIK"

I don`t know if this is the right place to post this thread. But anyway.......

Just a few images of the theater-boat MS INNVIK.

"Innvik" is a rebuilt car-ferry. Original built in 1967 for "Fylkesbaatane" to operate the fjords west in Norway. Most of the time Kaupanger-Gudvangen-Flåm.
1982-2001 this ship was sailing along the norwegian coast as a floating theater.
Since 2001 she has been owned by Nordic Black Theater, and moored in Bjørvika/Oslo.
This is probably the most special and interesting low-price Bed&Breakfast-"hotel" in Oslo. Also with special concert-, and theater-performances.

I will very much like to know if any of you have spent a night in one of this special ships cabins during your stay in Oslo. I certanly want to try that out one day..........

My images is taken from the great new opera-house in Oslo just a few days ago.

I'd heard about this boat, and even seen it in the distance, but haven’t stayed there – and the opera house was still under construction the last time I was in Oslo.

Ah, I was sure I ought to have captured Innvik on camera at some time! Here she is (though I was probably taking this to show Crown of Scandinavia).
The photo would also have been appropriate to post under “Hotel room views” as it was taken from the Scandic Byporten, in September 2006.

I recently read a report on the hotel facilities of "Innvik"... I vaguely recall it being in either VG or Dagbladet newspapers.

They stated it was an affordable experience, but also that the walls between the rooms were VERY thin... hence not suitable for past-marriage activities. They also stated that some of the doors has a tendency to slam in the night when people pass though them.

But if you were a sound sleeper, and not annoyed by the sounds... Innvik would provide you with clean and OK rooms in a central location at an affordable price (according tot he article).

Elizabeth, You should read norwegian newspaper more often. Sometimes you will find interesting stuff

I guess my snoring will not be popular on this ship. I read that you are not allowed to use the toilet or shower during theaterperformances. Because the sound/noice would desturbe the performance.

But my toilet-sound and shower-singing could maybe be an interestring perfornance itselves

Due to the price, you have to pay 750 NOK for two persons in a twin-cab. And 425 if you want the cabin alone. Breakfast included.

                Innvik is now for sale.

If anyone has some 200.000 NOK sitting around, you can get your own hotel and theater ship:

The ship was today sold for way more than the asking price, a whole 300.000 NOK.

The ship will later this autumn be towed to Drøbak, where it will continue service as a church and cultural stage.

It's a pity she'll be moving. I visited her from time to time when I was in Oslo, they had great vafler ("waffles"?) on board, and it was nice to sit on the upper deck and look over to the opera. Sometimes, when our family met, we met at the opera, and went to Innvik to have coffe, brus, ice and waffles for a reasonable price.
Well, Drøbak isn't that far away. Maybe they'll have waffles there as well?
                    Regards; Sigve.

Funny thing; in 2010 she was sold for NOK 300.000 (the price asked for was highest bid over NOK 200.000), and now, in 2013 the price asked for is NOK 10 million. Is she so much more worth as a wreck?
                        Regards; Sigve.

As far as I understand, the selling price is nothing but "symbolic".

But if it is indeed symbolic, 10 kroner would also be a great price.

The sad thing about old ships is that emotional attachment to a vessel doesn't mean higher value.
