Having not been around for a while - preoccupied with personal matters, this news comes as a shock to me. I find it hard to believe that the Arabs have spent all that money on her - keeping her in good order, powered up with air-con running all the time, only to let her go to a Chinese scrapper for a mere £20m. I do not think i can find the words to express just how i feel about this, but to save any colourful language being used i will say no more for now - i am not a happy bunny!

That puts her back in dry dock. Interesting, a routine bit of maintenance, or preparations for a long sea passage?

And with regard to her future - well, i know we are in the middle of a recession, but that old girl should be back in the UK. Shame on the powers to be that let her go to the middle east in the first place.

Interestingly, the final disposition of the ship may lie in the hands of her former owners, Cunard Line. The particular agreement between Cunard and her current owners, the Dubai state investment company Istithmar, appear to require Cunard Line to approve of the ship’s future use.
Come on Cunard, bring the old girl home!

Disappointed to hear that London seems to have been too slow with coming up with a proper plan, and associated funding. But, if she does go to the Far East, i think Hong Kong will be the fitting place for her.

I just hope that this does not turn out to be another 'Norway' type saga - ship goes off to the Far East with a promise of great things to come, only to have all plans dashed and the ship ending up on the beach.

Fingers crossed for the old girl, but such a shame she's not coming home to the UK.

Well, if QE2 does head off to Hong Kong, I do hope she doesn't meet the same fate as her name sake.

Ocean Group is a Singapore company, but that doesn't mean she will be coming to Singapore, neither for conversion nor to be stationed here.
Here is a link to Ocean Group Pte. Ltd and their plans for the ship: http://www.theoceanicgroup.com/emp/e.../qe2hotels.php

Did you all read what the ship's Captain said about the "take over" by new crew?

                              Shocking to say at least.

Certainly not good news. All old ships will have their 'quirks' when it comes to the engineering side of things, and all of the regular engineers would know all about every little aspect on how to keep the old girl running without problems. But even if she were a new ship, you would expect the new crew to spend weeks aboard getting to know each and every system on the ship. The fact that this new crew just came on a and took complete control within a matter of hours can only lead to trouble and possible damage being done.

Captain Cooper must have been heart-broken to handover his ship in such circumstances, letting go of something like the QE2 would of been hard under the best of circumstances, but seeing this debacle unfold before his eyes must have been a nightmare.
