    Norwegian Royal Yacht "Norge"

Sadly, I haven't been able to see this fine vessel too many times. The only time I can recall seeing it, is in Oslo. I don't think I've ever seen it any other place. Which is very sad, because it is a really beautiful vessel.

This thread is dedicated to collecting stories and images of this fine ship.

    Ah..., great!
Hope I can use this thread to proudly present the only pictures I got of this most beautifull vessel to travel in our waters.
My pictures are from a summer visit from the Royal Family to Kristiansund in 2006

Would very much like to have a copy of the picture our Queen Sonja took here

And here's my most spectacular image from that day; the command bridge of the Royal Yacht.

Stunning photos – especially Queen Sonja taking a photo, and that amazing command bridge, oh, and the one looking down towards the approaching ship . . .
I have never seen her, but started to read about the Norwegian Royal Yacht after having seen the Danish equivalent.

I also have two pictures of her, taken in Oslo at 2nd of April 2007. I already posted them in the old forum, but as to complete this thread....

This is such a handsome vessel: I remember, during my teenage years, I used to have a book about the ship. I think it was a VG (newspaper) published book which had tons of images from a trip north along the coast in the early 80's.

I just don't know where this book took the way.

I love the low yellow funnel, her lines and the teak work which is so evident in Sterkoders images. She is stunning.... HM Queen Sonja also!

(Sterkoder: If I were you, I would print the image of Sonja and send it to "Slottet" in Oslo, addressed to HM Queen Sonja. I bet you would get a reply back from the Cabinet Secretary stating that Sonja would like to thank you for the image. I've done it twice, and late King Olav V, replied me both times.)

            Thanks for the tips!
Have thought about it myself, but never got to it (after over three years....).
You mean print it and send it as in "snail mail", with envelope, stamp and all...., or do you think a pasted picture in an e-mail would do....??

Yes, as a print in snail mail. That would be more personal and suitable for such a letter.

I remember it was so awesome to receive a reply from the Royal family and HM Late King Olav V. I still have the letters, they were naturally written by HM Cabinet Secretary, but they were signed by HM Olav V. I have two letters signed by HM King Olav V: it's like we almost were penpals!

You could in the letter say something like "I hope HM Queen Sonja also was very pleased with her image of me as well".

If you are REALLY lucky, you might even get her image back! Who knows?

You know, such letters are memorabilias...., or what you english speaking call it
I'd go a bit OT here, because I'm not affraid to send letters and quieries to "authorities".
In my archives I have signed pictures, letters and autographs from among others; Charles E. "Chuck" Yeager (first one through the sound barrier), Paul W. Tibbets (Pilot in command of the USAF B-29 which dropped the A-bomb over Hiroshima. NO, hi did NOT go crazy after the drop!), Gen. Adolf Galland (the Luftwaffe fighterpilot who answered "A squadron Spitfires!" when Hitler asked him what he needed to beat the RAF), Gordon Baxter (legendary columnist in the american aeronautical magazine FLYING)...., so...., a letter from HM Queen Sonja....., hmmm....., yeah, could very well fit in
Now...., first of all, I'll have to print out a picture, so this may take some time

Seeing how active you have been, that should be the least of your problems.

Put it on a flashdrive, bring it to town and have it printed in a photoshop after work some day!

And off course, when you get a reply, we expect you share it with us...

Does anyone know, are there any images of the interior on board the Royal yacht Norge?

Did anyone see the today's news from Massmoondmaritime today?

This ship in the background, certainly looks like our special Norwegian Royal Yacht "Norge"..... what was "Norge" doing in March 1959 when that image was captured?

I see the similarity, but this is not the R/Y Norge.
There are many differences, too many to mention, and the hull are totally different.
In 1958 and 1959, King Olav used the "Norge" on his voyage of blessing (signingsferd) after being King in 1957.
On a picture from 23rd June 1958, "Norge" looked just like today when she sailed into Kristiansund harbour.

What I don't know however, and can't find out...., is whether "Norge" had a sistership....?
