S|S Norway : NTSB Accident Investigation Report

I do hope someone will hear my shout in this post and will be able to give some guidance.

Does any of our members know if/where/how I can get hold of the entire NTSB Report from the bolier room explosion on board the Norway in Miami?

Are there anyone (in the US) which are able to get it, or are there anyone who has it, or parts of it, which they can help me obtain?
With best regards from Jan-Olav Storli

          Jan Olav--
A friend just sent me the entire report. Charts, depositions, internal NCL memos, etc. It must be about 500 pages and weigh about 25 pounds.
I have read some of it already. It is an interesting read and details some of the operational challenges that were associated with the NORWAY.

That sounds much bigger than the report i have, I think mine must have been the summary. Reading that lot will certainly keep you busy for a while Jeff!

For anyone else interested in the report that i have, it can be found here.

P.S: Jan-Olav, the link above also contain a couple of small appendixes that go with the report i sent you.

Thank you very very much for your quick reply Steve!

I actually have this version from before. It is very interesting reading but the one I really would like to read is the final extended report, which also includes witness testimonials and other interviews. I don't think I have been able to come across it in it's complete form, and due to the number of pages, I do not think it's publicly available to us outside of the US. I think it contains a couple of hundred pages.

              Does anyone have that one?

Jan Olav: I think that is the copy I have. Been reading statements made to NTSB representatives by numerous crew members and shore side personnel.
I may be able to contact my friend and see how he was able to get his copy. Would you like me to do that?

                      Hi Jan Olav:

Ref the NTSB full report, my friend contacted and informed me it was very expensive (few hundred US dollars) and he thought he might haver been able to get it cheaper on a disc. I went to the NTSB web site and only found the summary report. I will continue to look for the full report and see if it available at a resonable cost.

A few hundred dollars for the full report sounds like a lot of money to spend.

If you find any more reasonable solutions, please do let me know.

In my opinion it ought to available for nothing more than the cost of postage. As taxpayers we already paid for the report anyway. Anyone who wants it should be able to get it without having to pay a small fortune.

From what i read at the NTSB website, the Norway's boilers have been neglected and abused during her last years of service. prior to that there had also been ongoing tube failures and fatigue cracking which required repairs during drydockings. Which is why in november 1997 it was proposed to replace those boilers with either new boilers or gas turbines or installing diesel electric drive with new kamewa propellers.Oviously they chose not to do it.

I'm not a tax payer of the US, but I totally agree with your sentiments and view on this.
