          4: The SS Norway began and proved that large cruise ships were feasable in the Miami, Caribbean itinerary's.

            5: The SS Norway made her inaugural, first cruise from Miami to Little San Salvador to Miami on 30 May 1980. The Purpose was to test her two new tenders at beach landings at NCL's Out Island.

                      10: After a massive renovation of the SS France at the shipyard Hapag Lloyd, Bremerhaven the SS Norway began her long cruise to her homeport of Miami in the USA. Her first port of call after leaving Bremerhaven was Kristiansand, Norway. She arrived there on 2 May 80.

                        11: In the early morning of 3 May, the SS Norway slowly began her way up Oslo Fjord for her second port of call at Oslo, Norway. As it grew later into the morning and as Norway approached Oslo every manner of boat, yacht and ship came out to meet her. This included Norways oldest passenger ship, the coal fired SS Boroysund, a handsome relic from 1907.

                            13. Did you know that the SS Norway was the first NCL ship to be named without "ward" in the name. NCL ships up to the time of the SS Norway were named Sunward, Sunward ll, Starward, Skyward, and Southward, including a planned Seaward which were canceled.
